I hope John D will indulge me in this topic because there is a Dragons relevance.
The story has been doing the rounds for a bit since FC Barcelona unveiled a new President. One of the things mentioned was stronger links with our Union town-mates USAP. And it would appear that they will be making a bit to play Stade Toulouse in the New Camp this season.
tinyurl.com/3x4s6fe
You could look at this two ways, one of which is that USAP are trying to become a true club for the whole of Catalunya... I prefer to see it that they saw the Dragons visit to the Olympic Stadium in said city as success and wanted a piece of the action.
Despite their success when rugby in the south of France is mentioned (either code) I still think Catalans Dragons pop into neutrals heads first.
Of course there are claims by USAP that they got there first having played a fixture in Barcelona back in 1935, but that doesn't count for me.
Is the Barca experiment something Dragons are looking to repeat? Could a suitable venue not be found in Girona maybe for a road match? What are relations like between Dragons and USAP?

| Didn't Catalans lose money on the game at Montjuic?
I can't think of anywhere in Girona where a 'big' Catalans game could be held. Girona football club's Montilivi ground only holds 10,000 and isn't too disimilar from something you'd find in fourth division football over here.
Talking to rugby (union) players in Girona and Barcelona, USAP are THE team. They have always had ties to Catalonia and have claimed to represent Catalan rugby however the formation of Catalans Dragons was a kick up the backside and they have been much more active on that front in the past few years.
As to whether the league and union club have a good relationship, you'd have to ask some of the more well versed contributers on these pages.

| Just for you Jimmy I made a few cross channel phone calls.
The club have been approched by Warrington to play in Barcelona again but there is yet to be a decision made. The club didn't lose money on the last trip to Barcelona, as all costs were covered by the local council and the mayor of Barcelona's office. Barcelona was interested again this year in taking a game there, but the Perpignan local council wanted all games to be played in Perpignan, as they are a big benefactor, it was decided to agree with them.
Should a game be played in Barcelona next year it would be around the same date in June with the Montjuic or Espanyol's new stadium the preferences. The club are not worried about USAP playing in the Camp Nou as even if they get 40,000 for the game there it will still look empty in a 100,000+ seater stadium. Plus if they wreck the pitch in April it will be a disaster for the relations between the two clubs with the Spanish season going on 'till mid May.
And breathe, hope that answers a few of your questions mate

| Gilbert Brutus (or Aimée Giral) is easier for non-locals like us to get to so it's a case of 'leave well alone' from our point of view but the match at Barcelona was a big success so why not try one match on the spanish side
why not try to get a game at Beziers or another similar stadium off the ground again ? I seem to recall Hull FC pulled out for some reason
the crowds at Brutus have been relatively dissappointing this season obviously reflecting the performances so would a ground switch dramatically change the size of the crowds
I repeat we are not local fans so are not too well versed on the local support in Catalunya so excuse our ignorance on this subject

Good points well made ! My interest mainly stems from the fact that USAP are trying the same trick to get some hearts and minds.
Whilst there are always staunch league and union supporters, in my naive little mind I wonder whether there is an opportunity to work together for mutual benefit.
So Cala did they confirm or deny the ISC rumour ?

Who are...
Biarritz have taken some games to Real Sociedad's ground so maybe this is something USAP are looking to do on a more regular basis. Agree though that it could look a bit daft in a stadium the size of the Camp Nou.

| Whilst we are o/t talking about the other lot. I was interested to watch their match with Agen yesterday.
It was a bit scrappy but at least they try and pass not just launch it all the time.
I think it was CMR who said on here previously that they play quite an expansive game.
Threw it away totally though...
