Quote 14/10/2010: Trent Robinson is in Perpignan
[iTrent Robinson, the new coach of Catalans Dragons, arrived on Tuesday from Perpignan.
Behind its imposing stature of former second line hides a man open and available, happy to return to France he had discovered some years ago under the banner of Toulouse Olympique.
After a season with the Sydney Roosters, despite losing in the finals, he is now eager to begin this new experience in Super League. [/i
How do you feel since your arrival in France?
I am very happy to be here, back in France. I have very fond memories of my four years at Toulouse. I look forward now to have the whole group together to begin training for the serious stuff ...
What will be your priorities?
Resume workouts next November 2. Even if we do not have the entire workforce, we must be ready. We have already attacked with Laurent Frayssinous, Jerome Guisset and Keegan Smith, the new physical trainer, to set the agenda for this season.
What will this program?
We have a total of 12 weeks of preparation, with a program arranged for the international only begin Nov. 15. We will subsequently two friendly matches up to be ready in mid-February.
A quick note on your players ...
I am satisfied with the recruitment which comes smartly complement the existing workforce. We filled some weaknesses, particularly in terms of the speed of our line through the signature ¾ Blanch and Farrar. I am also very pleased to have Steve Menzies. We needed such a player, very experienced, to supervise a younger group.
What are your goals?
I am aware that the leaders, sponsors, fans expect more from our team. So we need to improve the performance and the work starts now by adapting to the Catalan culture, life in this new club. Then we set up a program and rebuild the group and the results will follow. '"

He has also spoken to the local chip shop paper producer too !! ... www.lindependant.com
Quote Dragons' new coach is young. That does not stop being ambitious. For the game and the club. He outlines his method today.
He pleads for his players immerse themselves in local customs while Trent Robinson gives an example. Not only because he moved to Thuir - "I wanted a lively village even in winter" - instead, like any good Aussie, take the direction of Malibu in Canet. No, it's also because in his first interview, we found the Cafe de la Bourse, Place de Perpignan treizistes par excellence.
Trent did you installed?
Yes that's it, I found a villa in Thuir. With my girlfriend and my little boy I discovered 9 months Perpignan.
But I already knew Spain and Barcelona and Toulouse then of course when I was on the staff.
What made you decide to join the Dragons?
When I heard that Kevin (Walters, former coach of the Dragons) was leaving, I knew immediately that the position interested me. Of course, there were many things to weigh as obtaining the franchise or the squad, but I wanted to France.
Why?
I love living in France, food, climate, scenery. And then my girlfriend is French, Toulouse. But all this must be separated from work. Here, there is a story with XIII Catalan and St Esteve. I wanted it. If I had to take charge of Britain for the Super League, I think I would have stayed with the Roosters.
Who approached the other? Dragons or you?
In fact, my agent has made the connection. Who started the negotiations. Then I spoke with Chris Jouffret (Director) and Bernard Guasch (club president).
For you, it's a promotion. You become a head coach ...
Yes it's a promotion. It's a chance. But it is also a risk. It is much easier to be an assistant coach. There is less pressure and less accountable to the leaders. It claims to be head coach is not an end in itself.
At 33, you are young for the position ...
I am 33 years old and a 3 year contract. With my assistants, the staff there is the youngest of Super League. It gives us time to build. But I'm not at the club to learn. I am here to bring. To be a leader.
Before talking about your players talking about your assistants.
I'm glad to have arrived early to discuss with them. Lawrence (Frayssinous), assistant for 4 years to the Dragons, has seen the club and the players change. It is known here, but also abroad to be a technician and have a spirit of attacker. It is not selfish, loves the club and is intelligent.
Jerome (Guisset) is a great player for France, but also for the NRL and Super League where he played. In the last 20 years, he is among the best players in France. He also is not selfish.
What do they bring?
I've got a style of play they, they have a club environment.
What is your game exactly?
There are two things I like. The game of movement, because I train like that and it's also the game that requires the public. But I consider it to be strong in defense to be strong in attack.
Tell us about the actual
I meet all the players individually to get an idea of what they want to give. The squad, I'm glad it was I who chose recruits.
The first thing I noticed is that everyone expects the Australians win matches. To me it does not work like that. The French have the basics of the game and bring the little more Australians.
What do you expect from them?
They wanted to come. Then I ask them to be here to improve the game, but soaking in the French game. They are all young except Menzies. Him, he played 14 years for the same club in Australia. He did everything to XIII and he comes to give experience. The others are there to integrate.
You mention several times the French game ...
Here, there is a story of XIII. Here, if you want to be English or Australian, you're gonna lose. The Super League is more English, she is European and we, we must keep our French side. For example, playing at home, the English do not understand what it is. Well we, we will work to form this club culture.

| That's pretty encouraging to be fair. He sounds like he's a lot more prepared and aware of the task than Walters was.

| yeh, much the same attitude when he was at TO tho' more mature obviously in his RL philosophies
I asked him about Kane - he said he liked (and respected) Kane as a player but felt he was limited in his playing abilities - Hendo was the preferred choice for him because of his flexibility
I asked him if there would be a friendly v TO13 - he said yes in january and was also hoping to arrange a SL friendly at Gilbert Brutus around the same time
He is relishing the challenge,he loves france and the way of life and can't wait to get started.
he was impressed with the french talent available to him and agreed with me that Mickel Simon has the makings of a top player
nice guy, very approachable, tho' let's hope he doesn't spend too much time behind the posts...
