| Quote ="red al"Quote ="tonylRobin"Quote ="Mild Rover"Quote ="phleastyler"i can't see him touting for a pay as you play deal, surely it would make sense for him to at least demand a wage, even if relatively small, with possibly reasonably hefty appearance fees. At least then if he doesn't play for a month he still gets a couple of £ in the bank?'"
I'd have thought so too. Makes more sense for him - no pro wants to train, not play and not get paid. And whatever club he plays for, in terms of managing the cap. When these sort of deals have been mentioned in the past on other boards, I've always assumed you'd have to leave the full cap space potentially required free - at the start of the season at least.
Our [uexperienced[/u cover for 2nd row and centre is okay, without being massive or brilliant, so he might be worth a punt. It would be a gamble, but if it is even 'pay as you play lite', that mitigates some of the risk. We lost Fox, Briscoe, Cockayne and Colbon and only have Hodgson and McDonnell as replacements. Maybe Horne too, if he is seen mainly as a centre. Worth considering, at least.'"
what cover do we have at centre? Horne but who else?'"
I think salter is a centre, need to start putting faith in the youth, not entertaining 35 year old war horses. he had his day and should retire or join cookey at donny.'"
Heil as well. Youth and experience isn't an either-or, IMO. Depth and competition for places has to be a positive. I've seen it posited on another board that you can have too many experienced players and that that can block the progress of youngsters. Super League isn't a development competition, it is the pinnacle of the sport in this country. You should get your chance when you deserve it - when you're better than the old warhorse. Except maybe in the odd dead rubber.
It may be that Senior has had his day, but he's worth a look at least. Fwiw though, I don't necessarily buy into role model/mentor thing that is rolled out when veterans are signed. Being great and being a great teacher doesn't always follow - but that is a personal bias.

| As it stands we have 7 outside backs with 1st team experience covering 5 places. This includes Sheriff who has 2 SL games under his belt & is likely to miss a chunk of the season. We want to see the youngsters getting some game time but 2-3 injuries & they could all be playing.
Centre / 2nd row has been mentioned, but Senior has also played on the wing a few times in recent seasons due to his ability to make good ground on kick returns, something we've really struggled with. Our backs are fairly pacey but we don't have much physical presence.
I suspect he'll end up elsewhere, but if he does sign he'll be a useful addition & could be a great mentor for Heil & Salter, not to mention Welham who's still developing as a player.

But the inescapable fact is that it is extremely rare for signings by Rovers, even ones that are the height of mediocrity or ones with ludicrous hype (Ratu, Fozzard, Ward, Mason, blah, blah, blah) are welcomed on here with "Great signing in the context of <insert comment on magnificent potential if unproven, incredible experience to bring off the pitch if past it>. Perhaps on FC's board we are overly critical, with a universal lukewarm, if not downright frosty, reception for the likes of Aspinwall and Martin, but we do at least apply some sort of critique. Considering both sides are much of a muchness and mid-table mediocrity fodder, I'd say we are nearer to reality. Just an observation.
'"
Boards talking about the boards, so apology in advance...
There are plently of very optimistic posters on the Hull board too - FC Monk reckons mediocrity is a thing of the past for you lot and your team (which has long been better than ours, held back only by Richard Agar and the absence of a water filter), will leave us choking on your dust. And he might be right, though I naturally hope not.
On the other hand, we have arch-curmudgeon Larry Billey.
The proportions might vary, but in [usome[/u respects (and IMO), the Hull board is like an agglomeration of this board and hullkrfans. There's much more negativity (IMO) on the other Rovers forum and, vaguely back on topic, the potential arrival of Senior is being greeted rather less enthusiastically there. It's more often about retail and stuff like that, I admit, but your comparison of our two mid-table and mediocre teams, ignores the relative expectations of the two fan-bases. That has adjusted a bit over the last few years, but the ambitious rhetoric from AP has re-opened the gap again, a little. Martin and Aspinwall only seemed [iso[/i disappointing to [ua section[/u of your fans because they thought Lyon or SBW were viable targets.
Plus we 'have to' put up with a proportionally much greater volume of trolling and positivity is a reaction against that. You lot have too much time for introspection and navel-gazing.

| This board is so positive because I'm on it and I'm never negative about anything, not even Ms. Terrorist crashing the car, again, gets me down nowadays.

| Keef could bring his horsey and do horsey rides for the kids, bring in a few more families that.
He could sing horse related songs at half time.
"Stuck In The Middle With Hooves"
"You've been hit by, you've been licked by, a hooved criminal"
"Feelin' trot, trot, trot"
(Horse gags courtesy of weirdhorse...)

Yeah she's fine thanks. Crashed into an invisible wall, clonked the rear wing and took a chunk out of the tyre so that'll be about one hundred and fifty sheets for a new tyre.
The funniest thing is that she still thinks she's a great driver. This is coming from the girl who has managed to crash into the next door neighbours cars twice in the last four years!

| Considering the defence on our edges has been poor since the start of the season, maybe signing of Senior to add much needed experience and competition for places on a pay-as-you-play deal would be a smart bit of business?
