| We have an important home match on Sunday v York, yet little interest on this site except from York fans.
Have seen nothing this week on line in the Star & only a message from Carl in the Free Press about crowds, nothing on the Official Site.
No team/injury news , news on Dual Reg players .ANYTHING to generate some interest.
The York players have made a gesture to get their fans to the game after a poor display last week end.
I am sure our players will be up for Sunday BUT it would be nice to hear something about the game from the Club.
Having a moan
Paul

| This forum does seem a bit quieter than last season; don't really think the local press do the Dons any favours with the lack of coverage, as for the Dons site, we know it is being revamped, could be something to do with it. Maybe hanging back on team news/injuries till there is something to tell, as for the dual reg lads, well who knows, probably not the club till wakey/cas name their squads. Im sure we will hear tomorrow .

| I will be doing a preview of the game tomorrow like I do for EVERY game and will also be announcing a new signing for the club. I don't get injury/team news until late Thursday evening after the team have trained.

Oooooh!
We need something good at this miserable time (I'm thinking weather rather than performances).
As long as it's not another Wakey recruit .....Walshaw would be acceptable though.
Oh for a Kemp or a Mansson or a Vila or a Bloem or any other of a myriad of exciting players which we have had and DON'T have now.
Can you see the link? ... Yes they are all of foreign extraction.
You need a team based around local talent but laced with a few exciting foreigners for the wow factor.
Sheffield have it right and we don't.
Not that I could ever support the Eagles, but they have a much more interesting side than ours. We are getting a bit boring this season.
Cooke is OK, but when will we ever have a crowd-puller again like Mansson?

| Lets hope so ... Someone of the ilk of Paul Mansson or Craig Weston would be excellent.

| I couldn't mention all the exciting players we have had now could I?
Craig Weston .....fabulous player.
Holroyd ... we never saw the best of him, but he was still excellent when he was with us.
I remember when we lost Mansson to HKR and Holroyd came in to replace him.
Singe (god bless him) said to me in the Earl ''don't worry Graham is a better player''
And in a way Singe was bang on, Graham had a kicking game that Paul didn't and Graham was a better all round player. That meant little to me that day because in Paul Mansson we had lost a creative genius the likes of which I have never seen since at the Dons.
His shoulder dips and feints and dummies and curved breaks were worth the admission price alone.
I will never forget the way he would curve to avoid a closing, faster, chasing defender near the try line as he went over for one of his characteristic break-away tries.
Sheer poetry.
I look forward to the day we see his like again, I feel privileged to have watched him, and he was in the twilight of his career as well.
I may well be pushing up daisies before lucky Dons fans get that kind of thrill again.
Hope not!

Fully agree SO. Mansson was the best. I always remember a game up at Keighley i think we beat them about 50odd - 6 and there was a group of blokes stood near us. One of them said " Whos that number 6 for you" and I said with great pride "Thats Paul Mansson" .He completely ran the show that day.A masterclass, head and shoulders above everyone on the field.

Kevin Jones was a decent stand off
Eric Horsman
Derek Woodfield
Vince Hattee
Gary Brook
Trevor Denton
All had excellent games for the Dons in the No 6 shirt
And we shouldn't forget former GB international Derek Edwards

Not only the best 6 but at such a young age. Seventeen was it, when he came to us?

| Kemp and Mansson were different kinds of players, so it's just a matter of personal choice.
Kemp was brilliant when he was young, but not when he got to be the age that Mansson's played for us.
He had become podgy and slow, Mansson always looked an athlete.
Mansson would have blinded him by then.
Besides, this is not a 'who do you think was Donny's best stand-off?' thread, it's the pointing out that once we had kiwi (mainly) class and now we don't.
Once we had an exciting breed of player and now we have competent, but in comparison, rather unexciting players.
Things need to change.
Did we really have more money back then?

Paul I would hazard a guess that you didn't start supporting the Dons until around 1984-85
