I've been reading a few boards recently and I reckon our name is mud in certain circles. There are a lot of mistruths about us and our name seems to be synonimous with old fashioned and traditional. Even if we don't post on a thread if our name is brought up there are lengthy discussions about why we are the way we are. So the question is simple. Are we hated or is it just a select mouthy few on the internet?

I went to the recent England match and saw plenty of widnes shirts so thankfully the thirst for RL is still very much alive in the region but somehow simply being a widnes fan is enough for some to write your life story.

I hate Leigh 10,000 times more than you.

I think we're probably more loved than hated, especially beyond the realms of the internet. It's the select few of idiotic gobes who think they know what's best for the game that seem to hold us in disregard. The same few whose opinion changes with the wind and who instantly jump on the expansion bandwagon any time a city with even the most remote connection to rugby league is mentioned.. These people are amongst the worst who claim to support our game.

The reason for the animosity on here is most know that you are going to displace one of the ' chosen ones ' in 2 years time , whereupon you will become the most ' despised ' club for a while

Nah, I don't think we are. To be honest, I suspect that the majority of fans of SL teams really don't feel strongly about Widnes at all.

There are a few denizens of the VT who just hate Widnes, for different reasons probably : Leaguefan, Wes Hooligan (or whatever handle he uses now), Crucrusaders are prime examples.

And then there are those who feel the need to defend the last round of licensing/franchising and keep up the pretence that the process was 'transparent', 'fair' and all that other bollox : SmokeyTA and tb for 2, but there are plenty of others.

Finally, the whole franchising/licensing schemozzle has set fans of clubs in the lower echelons at each others throats like never before : all scrabbling to tick boxes and desperate to scramble to the front of the SL queue, not to mention feeling the need to run down the perceived SL 'weaklings' - Salford, Wakey etc. This leads many Barrow, Halifax, Leigh, etc. fans to 'hate' us - but by no means all, and to be brutally frank, there aren't a huge number of them anyway !

But having said all that, there are many thousands of Hull KR fans who hate Hull FC with a passion, and vice versa, not to mention numerous other 'intra SL' rivalries.

So, while many may consider Widnes fans to be whiners or whingers I really don't think we are the most hated.

I think that's about right prehensile. Sometimes it just feels like you're more hated than you are I suppose.

As I say, I've been surfing around, there's been a lot of e said about widnes recently.

Like I said earlier. Leigh = Barry Chuckle. Widnes = Paul Chuckle. You are in our pocket mate.

I've had enough of trying to get any sense out of the expansion nazi's on the Virtual Terrace. In actual fact, I think we've got a damn fine league with bundles of 'proper' clubs, proper grounds, proper rivalries and, most of all, proper supporters. Forget about SDL, it aint all it's cracked up to be.

And you wouldn't believe how many variations of 'expansion nazi' are affected by the swear filter...says it all!

But the term "flatcapper", offensive if you think about it, is very much still allowed. I remember once one of the mods trying to suggest insults we should be able to fling their way which were acceptable. That isn't how insults work, folks. Expansionista doesn't have a good ring to it and if you're suggesting it, it doesn't have enough impact.

Everyone knows Cas are the most despised team in the world!! But like Starbug said, you will take your place on the big stage in 2 years time and the groans from the one's relegated from the nest of vipers that is SL will be heard vilifying Widnes and the unfairness of it all - for a while. Then we can all go back to hating Wigan, Leeds Cas etc!!

I shouldn't, but I will, take some voyeuristic pleasure out of watching the vipers turn on each other as they try to 'out-justify' their existence in SL and how another team should be relegated and listening to the repeated mantra of "oh the unfairness of it all"!!

I can't think of a single reason anyone would hate both Hull FC and Leigh. What sets of supporters are rivals to Hull FC and Leigh?
