| Just got back from the game. Very disappointed with the result and have to say I thought Salford deserved it.
We looked very good in the last 20 of the first half, but gave away some daft penalties and made some daft decisions throughout the game.
Individually some good performances, just not clicking as a team......yet.
Fantastic away following from the Black & Whites. I'm not sure how much that stand holds but it was pretty much full! Poor turnout from the home support though (one stand wasn't even opened).
We took the park & ride (£2 return per person) from the Trafford Centre which I'd recommend.
Overall, glad I visited the new stadium but very disapointed with the result.

| Very disappointed, blew a couple of clear chances, but we did look good in parts. Some flowing rugby, but then slipped back into the old ways. Gentle not been around long enough to slap them when they slip back.

Mmmmmm not sure about that!! 2 poor teams on show last night and I'm not sure either deserved to win. Maybe 22 all would've been fair but as for good rugby???........

It might not always be effective, you can't deny Salford play some good stuff.
We could learn a thing or two about their attacking structures, bodies in motion and good use of dummy runners.

| Beaten by the better team on the night. Its seems that under pressure the players automatically reverted to the dumb rugby they have known & worked to by the previous regime which is only natural.
It was a very patchy performance as Gentle has alluded too and I have to agree with his comments he is pretty much spot on. No real drama, disappointing loss but valuble lessons to be learnt. Just gave them too much time especially Smith who dictated everything. We looked like we were still on the bus for the first 20mins of each half.
Some very dumb rugby, poor options and schoolboys errors, just a bad night alround really.
If we are still doing this half way through the season then I might be worried but not 3 games in, its going to take time to undo all that was wrong when Gentle took over.

| Can't believe how poor we looked, no flair at all. Very disappointing. Early days though. Fair play to Salford they looked up for it and played well. Must do better.
Nice ground, was out of the car park quickly, though we blagged one of the 'home' tarmac spaces.

| Despite the fact we beat london easily and the score flattered them,it wasn't a flowing performance at all,in fact if you take away the draw against warrington,we haven't played well at all.Thrashed by the dobbins in a friendly, ordinary against london, even worse against salford,I wonder what the feeling would be if westwood had kicked the last minute conversion.Ifeel so depressed and am beginning to wonder if the warry result is papering over the cracks this early in the season.

| didnt go last night, but nice to hear Seymour did some good stuff, Mckinnon is gonna score plenty this year im sure, and cant remember when Houghton wasn't one the best players on the pitch.
on the flip side, we have a great left side attack but its not used to its potential. as for the right it just isnt used at all, the forwards where handicapped by lack of rotation this made us a tired outfit and tired blokes make mistakes and give away pens.
We lost, and next weekend cant come quick enough to put things right!

Christ we got beat by Salford who played well and we played poorly but had Yeaman passed to Briscoe when he made the break, had we not lost the scrum and Lynch not given the ball away on the 1st tackle 10M from Salfords line it could have been a lot different. We were poor there is no denying it but jeez we are only 3 games into a new season after having a whole new set up at the club and a new Coach who has to instil into the squad he inherited and try and erase all that was bad and ingrained into the players over the last 4 years.
This isnt going to happen overnight and we will no doubt see what happened last night were the players reverted to last season when under pressure and went away from the game plan.
Gentle I believe is a very good Coach but a miracle worker he aint so give them time, we have seen some encouraging signs so far but it will take time to get them to be consistant and be rid of their previous failings and habits.

Have to agree, this is what he said last night.
The Black and Whites also handed a Super League debut to young prop Josh Bowden after losing Sam Moa to suspension and Joe Westerman to injury following last week’s match against London, but Gentle said there were no excuses from his side.
“Nobody is blaming anyone and I know these blokes pretty well now. It was an uncharacteristic performance and the closer we got to the finish line the more panic set in with us,” he said.
“I didn’t put our younger guys back on toward the end because I thought having our senior guys out there would bring some clam heads to the team, but it did pan out that way.”

Now I'm not saying that it is the case because I didn't go or listen, so I can't comment on the nature of his performance, but I can't help but wonder if it's because he's already being asked to do too much with 80 minutes most weeks. I personally think by doing so it's always a matter of time before his standards slip, it's too demanding a role to see otherwise. Swain was a freak, far from the norm.

| was houghton who was penalised for not standing square that allowed salford to win the game. should he have been replaced earlier? i think so, nicklas at hooker may have given us a bit more zip at the ptb going into the last quarter

i agree that this is the proper and grown up reaction to the game. for me Gentle is in the unfortunate position that he's coming into hull in a time that we have heard all the excuses before (R. Agar and P. Sharp) and any over reaction is due to fear of 3 more seasons of under achieving. we allow our selves to be swept along by the Hull fc PR team and we start to think there is a quick fix. Not that i have a problem with the Hull PR approach, they have got to do that we need people through the gates.

| Still not sure how we lost the game in all honesty our defence in the middle was superb, we must have restricted them to their own 40 whenever they were asked to clear their line.
Our goal line defence was good too as we looked in control whenever they spread the ball which looked fancy without doing much a early kick and a sensational offload opened us up in the first half.
Think last night will have been a lesson learnt in sub management for Gentle as you could see Houghton was out on his feet in the last 10 and was no surprise that he gave the penalty away for not getting square.
Penalties were the killer last night though and its not as if they were penalties on tackle 1 or 2 they seemed to always be on tackle 5 again something what I think you can put down to fatigue.
With the ball our forwards got us up the pitch no problem but when we got into their 20 we just lacked some composure and seemed to go back to passing it along the line just for the sake of it without any real structure in place. We need to get McKinnon involved on the left to create the extra man.
