| As long as they only opened the bottom section it would be fine, the atmosphere in the anz can be good with 15,000 in and the ozzies aren't to keen on singing.

| I suppose a lot depends where you sit.
Last season we played the bulldogs in front of 30,000 and it was a supeb atmosphere, better than the near full house game of wests v at George.

| The bottom "bowl" of the KC holds around 19k, any build would be "up"
So we'd only need the bottom bowl, fine with me.
We'd need 38k for the world club and to set a SL record attendance in the mid 30's would be good and unbeatable.
What the club would need to fight for is any capacity disruption due to construction must not only effect the SL season, both teams should suffer

The annual 'lets expand the stadium' thread, or so it seems. Because City really need the extra capacity

During their two years in the sunshine, exactly how many fixtures truly were sell-outs?

My point exactly. They are a mid-table Championship side, and will be for the forseeable future. Their average attendance this year so far is 20,931. So why the need for £20K extra seats?

quite true but allam's grand plan is to increase capacity in order to bring the prices down to an affordable level sounds like pie in the sky to me but you can't knock his motives. I think crowds of 30,000 plus if city were in the premiership with people paying less than 20 quid would be a possibility, but personally can't see either the ground being expanded or city reaching the premiership again tbh

| I'd love to know where people think the Allams would secure the finance from, the investment to buy the ground, build a hotel etc. and increase capacity would top £80m, can you see any sane business person securing that against their own personal wealth in the current climate?
Remember, the Rank development in Hull is suffering from potential lack of interest from developers/financiers, and that is a brown field site with outline planning permission in place, no poilitical strings and wide public support.

Correct. The Allams would not be so stupid as to throw more of their own money into it. They would doubtless fund it by borrowings secured against the ground, further increasing the football club's debts.

| If you look a man city who bought the stadium from the council. It cost them something like 180-200mil and took them approx's 2 years to sort out. This all happened with no opposition as it was not a community stadium but built for the Commonwealth Games with City taking over after the games had finished. I know the kc is nowhere near as big but silly money would need to change hands and then you would have all the building to do on top of that.

tut tut, you are just not buying into the City Dream!
This is simple, they have more money than Sheikh Mansoor.
Also, a little birdy tells me they have just bid £24m for Mido

And also are the Tigers doing to draw 40,000 - I think not - even in the Premiership think Blackburn,Bolton, Fulham, should I go on. Liverpool struggled at their last home game to fill Anfield. Pie in the sky me thinks but I dont care as long as we remain there or some-one pays for a new Stadium for us.

Man City didn't actually buy the stadium, it was always intended that they would use it after the games, in fact, had they not been a major partner right from the first bid then Manchester would maybe not have secured the games, the delays for City using CMS was the removal of the running track and the addition of the extra rows of seats, it was planned from day one that this would be the case. Interestingly, the CMS is one of a few stadiums in Europe that has official police holding cells built into the fabric of the building.
To "buy" the KC the Allams (or anyone else) would have to pay the market rate, not just of the fabric of the stadium but the surrounding land and access routes, so not only would HCC have to sell the KC, they would also possibly have to sell part of West Park, then what would happen during the fair, would the Allams let the fair "people" use the area, the investment needed to buy the KC and to expand to 40,000 would be in the region of £60-£70m after all associated costs are taken into account, or to put it another way, the Allams would need to invest 3/4 of their personal wealth, said personal wealth isn't in bundles of £50's in a vault somewhere, it's on a ledger somewhere.
