Just got back after 5 days of mud and sunburn at Celtic Manor.
What a fantastic tournament to say the absolute least. I would rather watch that than the soccer World Cup semi's and final. Confirmed my thoughts that the Ryder Cup , to me , is the best sporting event in the world and it's on every 2 years ! Luke Donald was awesome and G Mac is steel.
At £370 for a 4 day pass it is great value and on the practice day you can stand next to Lee Westwood / Tiger etc and they will sign autographs for you.
Gleneagles 2014 - be there.

It was a brilliant event, would love to go to the next one or maybe a british open but i've always thought accomodation would be a real problem and cost a fortune did you have to book somewhere a long time in advance?

Attended the K Club in 2006 and loved every minute. It's definately up there as one of the best sporting events on the planet.

Booked 4 months in advance of event and got twin B&B for £120 a night. Not too bad for event of a lifetime. Got tickets in the ryder cup lottery as not everybody goes for 4 day passes. Single day tickets are very hard to get hold of.

£370 to stand in the rain and watch men hit balls with sticks. In the mud and rain, s'pose you were alright standing near Tiger Woods, I assume you aren't female and blond.

Tiger did stand waiting at a toilet on the course and out came a blond female !

Superb, sounds like you had a fantastic few days. I watched it all the way through, love golf anyway but the Ryder Cup is the best there is. It's up there in my top three tournaments, fantastic couple of days. The atmosphere sounded amazing. I'd love to get to Gleneagles in 2014.

I was on the 17th green when G Mac won it and was part of the mini invasion. Felt the same as I did in Cardiff 2005.
The mud was shocking to be fair and they need it in the summer. The beer tent on the Friday when play was delayed 7 hours + was rocking to the beat and the £9.50 fish and chips were delicious. £5 a pint mind . You aren't allowed mobiles or cameras so it was strange to have no contact from 7am to 8pm for 5 days and no laptop in B & B so felt like you were on holiday in 1985. I cannot recommend Gleneagles in 2014 enough.

Sounds fantastic, have always wanted to do the Ryder Cup, watched almost every minute of it.

what ever floats your boat, watching a load of blokes going for a walk in the country hitting a little ball around in diamond pattern knitware and funny trousers not my idea of fun.
Value for money £370!! some people have just more money than sense!
£190 for a round of golf? Dont know about the best sporting event in the world, an event they changed the rules to include the rest of europe because we could never beat the yanks on our own!

I've always enjoyed watching golf, even before I started playing. It's one of those games that looks easy but is actually really dfficult to do well. It's weird when you play though as, for me anyway, the only competitive element to it is trying to shoot as low a score as possible. What anyone else is doing doesn't even enter my head unless it's close with a couple of holes to go.

As for the Ryder cup it's easily the best event in golf and I was gutted to miss most of the play on the Monday due to work. Would love to go and watch it live in 2014.

Great, great ,great event, I would love to go and more than likely will do one day. I aint played golf for around 18 years, played my first round in that time last week and really enjoyed it. Went out and got myself some gear (clubs, bag, trolley etc), a little impulsive really lol

Surely one of the most complicated games in the world. In tennis you get 4 top male players and they win practically every major. The odds of a worls no.75 to win Wimbledon is about 250/1.
In golf any , and I mean any , top 100 player can win the Open or any of the other majors. The US open and PGA were both won by minor European golfers this year. It is such a difficult game and that is why the Ryder Cup is beyond awesome for me.

Great points in there. One thing I love about watching the majors are that any player amongst 20+ actually have a chance if winning. I think the fact that players like Monty have never won a major demonstrate how much talent exists at any one time.

Luke Donald , Lee Westwood , Jimenez and Poulter were easily Europe's best players and none have won a major. G Mac has obv but only 1 and he's in his early 30s I think. This also shows why Tiger is utterly talented and skillful.

Am I right in saying (apart from when you are in a team situation eg Ryder Cup) Golf is a sport that you play for or against yourself???

I've been to two Open's and enjoyed both days would recomend anyone to go if you enjoy sport even if you do not play
