| Just watching the Titans v Sea Eagles game and seen something I have never seen before, an 8 point try.
Sea Eagles went in for a try, got it down no problem but Titans player went in with the knees and was also deemed a foul so normal conversion happened and then penalty in front of the sticks foe the foul.
Commentator said this would never have happened if it hadn’t have been for the game being on TV.
Has this ever happened over here???

Think SL should look to do it more when there's an offence in the process of scoring. We seem to not even think about it over here.

| 2005 cup final didn't Leeds get awarded a penalty try when Raynor tugged Calderwoods' shorts, it was only a 6 pointer though.

Penalty try is more common and slightly different. I certainly recall seeing one or two in the 80s. It is certainly something that could and should occur far more often than it does.

Not talking about penalty try's. Today wasn't a penalty try, it was a try, but in the act of defending the try the defending team player went in with the knees and was deemed a foul, on the try scorer, so 6 points for the try and normal conversion and then an immediate kick under the post for the penalty.
Penalty try is basically when it’s deemed a player has been impeded from scoring the try at all and deemed by the official that there was no doubt a try would have been scored if not for the illegal incident.

| Every time a side scores against Melbourne they'd get 8 points after slater kicks them in the head.

Spot on, couldn't have put it better.
For what its worth Motu Tony's try in the 2005 final should have been an 8 pointer as he was clearly fouled in the act of scoring.(knee in the face)
It certainly would make certain players think about going in for afters as it guarantees another 2 points & the possibility of 10 minutes in the sin bin as it is rather clinical to foul when the player has already/pretty much scored.

| I've seen an eight pointer, only one though. I'm sure it was Challenge Cup game involving Wigan (think Phil Clarke might have been playing). The try was scored and the scorer was cheat shotted during the grounding. The conversion was slotted over then had a penalty in front of the sticks which was kicked. Penalty could only be kicked though.

I'm pretty sure you have to take the shot and goal and dont get the choice to tap the penalty.

| I've seen Hull score an 8 pointer. Down in the capital against "Fulham" at Crystal Palace athletics stadium if I remember right Schofield was fould after scoring, the normal conversion was taken from where the try was scored but he resultant penalty was taken from in front of the sticks. 1985 I think

| First time I remember an 8 point try was in GB v New Zealand or Aussie game back in the 70's , was a French reff we had never seen it before but was common in France .
Of cause our opposition objected strongly but reff stood his ground on it .
Was on BBC TV and caused a stair at the time in commentary team .
The goal kicks where as try scored then second one from 10 yards out in front of sticks .

I agree mate, don't like the cheap shots that come in when a try is scored.

| The last one I remember seeing was around 5 years ago. It was for Saints and against Wakefield as Solomona fouled Roby whilst the latter was scoring.
