dont see how bringing back a much fairer sporting system where teams where judged on their on field performances would meen going back to the semi pro days??
imo would make it far more exciting.

Because if you have a professional sport you need teams in it with professional setups. In other words what the Franchise Criteria set out. You want to let any old club in as long as it wins the semi-pro league, regardless of whether it has the infrastructure or facilities to handle professional sport.
Oh - and teams are still judged on their on-field performances, along with all the other stuff.

However there is still amongst many fans, clubs and players a niggle that the new system does not work as it promotes apathy rather than urgency and the old relegation led system meant real head to head hot clashes that forced lower placed clubs to up their game which the current system does not promote, however the main benefit for the current set up is that young guns can be blooded far earlier than before with minimal risk long term to the clubs standing and also with internal promotion to first team action the longevity of clubs is more stable with more home grown talent coming through rather than buying sucess

I would add that the struggle to avoid relegation encouraged focus from the media on mediocrity or, worse still, on poor teams taking it away from the teams at the top of the table. Screening relegation battles on Sky was a waste of prime viewing real-estate that ought to have been the reward for the teams performing well at the top of the table as it is in the new relegation-free era. Cas v Wakefield or Leeds v Saints - I know which I'd rather have been watching.

HKR won their right to play in the super league on the field and have since then made some improvements to their stadium much the same as Wakefield. Whether they are better run or more viable is up for debate. While they haven't had the publicised financial problems that Wakefield have had with the taxman they are reportedly almost £4 million in debt.
Quote ="TrevLovesJanice"

As for the promise of the new ground, you may recall that Wakefield's initial application to SL was rejected in October 1998 due to not meeting ground requirements, and was then deferred again in early November. Only towards the end of November 1998 were they actually admitted, having made "assurances" about the ground development or relocation. These are well documented facts so your "FFS" statement looks a little foolish.'"
So not a new stadium!
As for ground improvements, while no one is kidding themselves about the state of Belle Vue there have been a lot improvements made since Wakefield won promotion.
The FFS, is because as a Wakefield fan I have had this debate about Wakefield's supposed promise to build a new stadium time and time again.

I've always liked Wakefield and visiting Belle Vue as well (althought the view is less than belle nowadays) - Hull FC and Wakefield have had a good relationship over the years. I'd be sad to see them go. However, they have to get their act together becauuse things are looking bleak at the moment. I'd love to see them ground sharing with Cas to ensure the future of both clubs. Two new stadia within 10 miles of each other supported by one council in today's climate seems like a pipe dream to me.

is there a clun in SL that hasn't been in, or perilously close, to administration.
In fact, save FC and L**ds most other SL clubs would be in administration if they were high street businesses.

| The Wakefield chairman is spouting off in the Yorkshire Post today and challanged the people of Wakefield to show how much they want a club by putting money in.
Sound truly pathetic to me - aren't he and his cronies charged with the responsibility of running that club ? They certainly have enjoyed spending money that they don't have !
Interesting also that he isn't allowed to put money in because he is bankrupt. Sounds like an ideal person to be in charge.
Time for change, and Wakefield to rebuild at a lower level. Surely another club deserves a chance and if I was a fan of Widnes, Halifax or Barrow then I would be feeling very aggrieved not to rank above Wakefield when the franchises are given out.

The fact that Sky would seriously reduce the contract with no Crusaders will save them, it's a commercial decision, RL is a business, it's fairly simple.

I'm not sure if that's a loan as such. I think they went into administration owing the RFL £700K and have been given a period of time to pay it back.

And if Wakefield had 700k they could 'owe' to the RFL they probably would not be in the position were they are asking fans to shell out cash to save the club.

I get the impression that Wakey owe plenty of money to people anyway. Or at least soon will.
Maybe if they go into administration as well they can also get preferential terms from their creditors? Because otherwise I'm not sure how the two situations are comparable. Particularly as the £700K owed to the RFL is historic debt incurred by a previous administration rather than the same people who have run the club into the ground asking to be trusted with more cash.

Fair point, although I reckon Quins must be only just hanging in there.
But if you take out the "politically safe" clubs - Crusaders, Quins and Catalans, then Wakefield are the worst of the rest by a long way.
