My point is that Rugby League is a sport built on family traditions and community clubs so in fact the welfare of those clubs and communities is very much important to many throughout RL but in your case obviously not all!!

RFL is not, the last time I looked, a charity. The reason we've not really expanded is down to pit village politics and infighting, open your curtains, it's 2011 out there.

I have travelled the world extensively , been to watch fottie in almost every country it has been played in and i can tell you this , the majority of RL people do not see the game as a charity but more of a passion ... as do those people who live in Wakefield .
Your statement of rugby leagues problems being borne from pit village mentality is at best an insult to everyone who watches the game in my opinion because without those pit villages and breadline living supporters there would be no RL at all.

Wakefield has a failing (failed) management, don't confuse them with Wakefield Trinity and Rugby League as a whole in Wakefield.

There is a real possibility that Rugby League at a professional level will cease to be played in the city and the fallout from that won't be seen immediately it will be measured in 10 or 15 years time when the number of amateur clubs has fallen and therefore the number of junors produced.

Don't kid yourselves that Leeds, Huddersfield or even Cas will pick up the slack because it will not happen, without a club to watch, a community programme, a schools programme etc.. the next generation of young sportsmen will not be into RL but something else. That in turn has a knock down effect on spectator numbers for the wider game and son and so on...

The Wakefield area, inc Cas & Fev produces a great number of juniors and RL can ill afford to sacrifice one let alone two, like the Brazilian Rainforest when its gone, ITS GONE and try as you might, wish all you want you can't get it back.

Unfortunately i think you are right pal! although i can tell you it saddens me to the core to see any RL business go out of business and lets hope that the powers that hold court over these things move quickly to help and even if needed offer interim financial help because as you say in much better terms than i could muster the community needs the club as much as the fans do and RLs future young stars in these areas young and unborn as yet need these clubs as aspiration flags to grow into.

they are to crusaders and london.i just don't want clubs like wakey to disappear without being given the help what crusaders and london have enjoyed.

over the years Wakefield have had comparable, if not in excess, of those clubs.

In fact, I think most clubs have had some help/cash/dispensations over the years. It's time it stopped for ALL CLUBS and they stood or fell by their own actions.

Can you tell me when Wakefield got any significant help from the RFL or ESL because for the life in me I can't think of any, maybe it's my memory.

What I do remember is Wakefield being told they would receive no funding from the SL for the first two years after they WON promotion, level playing field my ar$e.

and if you think thats not relevant let me enlighten you...

Ted Richardson had to do a deal with Sainsbury's for a piece of land, that he had and they wanted, so that Trinity could survive without the £650K that all the other clubs were enjoying.

Fast forward 10 years and Sainsbury's no longer want that land and, to get out of the deal, have paid a fraction of what Ted had original agreed with them.

Hence Ted Richardsons financial problems, I find it a little nauseating that the RFL, SL and many fans of other clubs are having a snipe and think it was OK to treat a promoted club with such inequality.

I'll dig into it when I get chance, got a train to catch shortly, I may be wrong, it may have been the dispensation of not actually building a promised new stadium...

Wakefield never promised to build a new stadium FFS...........

i am glad i am not alone in my wish to see ALL RL clubs survive these terrible times financially , it doesnt matter where your from we all have a need to go and watch RL every weekend at a club we love dont we!!

My opinion (which may be old fashioned and sentimental) is that we have tried to expand the game and failed miserably, we will NEVER be a national game, in the eyes of the media and the rest of the sporting world. The sooner the powers that be realise that the better. Accept what we have and where we are, like i said we need to look after the heartlands, or we will have no game, the amount of players produced in areas like Wakey and Cas over the years is un-countable.

its a shame when clubs suffer,but it is inevitable now with sky involved,as they want a wider audience,hence wales,london,france etc.if these clubs went under would sky accept that? NO!!!!The RFL need to think on that without the heartland clubs,future players will be thin on the ground.oldham struggled-no help.york went under(yes they came back thanks to individual financial help)-no help.bramley,blackpool.there are more,but the RFL like the expansion idea more-unfortunately.

Very true..they have produced some real quality players, the junior set up is very good in these communities, and that is what will keep this sport alive...strong grass roots.

Then we die. Or go back to being a semi-pro sport. Or merge with Union.
