3. As I stated above; our squad is inferior to other top teams yet we are at full cap. Our team is weaker. QED we are paying over the odds to average players.

Good post but slightly factually incorrect because Tansey was wanted by the roosters and we had to pay a fee to get his release, he wanted to come back to England,they would have given him to us if he was not in their plans. Longy was offered a one year deal by Saints. They wanted him to stay but only offer one year deals to over 30's. Lastly yes Lauaki was released by Auckland but they actully asked us if he could play for them whilst he was waiting for his Visa to come through so they must have thought something about him.

Nice to get a constructive post rather than just petty sniping! I didn't think this thread was negative; just pointing out what I percieve as our barriers in recruitment and asking what we can do to move forward.

Obviously unless one is actually in the room at various negotiations then events are open to interpretation. I understand that tansey did want to come home but don't you think the fee involved was more about the Roosters wanting to get a bit of cash for him rather than any reluctance to let him go? If they really wanted him they could have held him to his contract.

Of course Saints would have offered Long a contract, it would have been bad form and political suicide not to offer a modern great a contract, but in effect they offered him one they knew he wouldn't accept, reduced terms and 1 year instaed of two. Again, if they really wanted him they'd have given what he wanted, they had their replacement ready.

Strike Lauaki then, but I have a sneaking suspicion that clubs hang on to players they really want to keep. Would we let, for example,Briscoe go?

It's harder to recruit because nobody wants to live in a city that's often voted one of the worst places to live.

not true when you're signing the players from the west riding like shenton or tom briscoe etc. A lot of west riding players stay were they are when playing for the hull clubs and travel to training.

Hull gets a bad press; it isn't that bad. Like any city there are areas where you wouldn't want to live but lets face it the players are on decent wages and the west of the city and outlieing villages are lovely.
