Just reading about Shenton going to Saints, thought what he said summed up our difficulties when trying to attract the best players from lowly SL clubs.

We have to make do with cast offs and are paying over the odds for them in many cases, how are we goign to get to the next level? Do we need to bring through a generation of home grown players? We're not going to be able to buy in a SL winning side.

Yet we're only 4 points off 2nd and have beaten the team in question twice this year. We have to utilise what's most effective about our team and that's our forwards. While we would all love to see the ball flow through hands like Saints do, I don't think anyone could turn our team into that after where we have been the last 2 years and TBF we do score some pretty nice tries too.

Shenton is overrated in my opinion and may have turned down other top teams not just Hull

Who are the players we are paying over the odds for any how much are we paying them compared to what they are worth?

Of course I have no inner knowledge of specific contratcs, but if Jimmy Rule is to be believed, we are at full salary cap and the fact remains our squad is not as strong as some of our rivals. this would point to the fact that we are paying over the odds to players in order to secure their services.

sorry but that is ridiculous...
1, since when were any of our signings cast offs???
2, were sat in 4th and showing some class when it matters
3, we are not poaying over the odds for anyone in our squad but i guess you have access to the wages ledger huh.
4, the next level from last year is exactly where we are right now!!
5, we have announced more home grown players recently than any other team in SL

6, WE TURNED SHENTON DOWN 3 WEEKS AGO BECAUSE HE WANTED TOO MUCH MONEY BY A LONG WAY FOR HIS ABILITY!!!! and because we have bigger and better plans afoot for the next two years

so what was your point again ??

I agree, I don't particulary rate Yeamo but I think he's a better centre than Shenton.

I'm another one in the Shenton is over-rated camp. I just dont see it.

As I understand it we talked to Shentons agent for week, but in the scheme of things he wanted too much money, he's still not as good as he thinks he is, when it ended up an auction with Saints, Wigan, Bradford and a few others involved we bowed out!

Count me in too.

I rate him, no doubts there....BUT only at the right price.



The only player who is worthy of a BIG deal is Thurston

And me. In all fairness to Cas they aint a great side, some very good players but no world beaters and because of that I would have expected Shenton to really be an outstanding player in the current Cas side which I just dont see.

Dont get me wrong Shenton aint a bad player just dont think he is that good either.

He is a big fish in a small pond at cas thats all , he believes all he reads in the papers about himself i am afraid

I actually think he genuinely went to Saints to win things. He could have easily stayed at Cas and been their highest earner if it was all about the money for him.

trust me he is to become one of their bigger earners believe it or not!!
and thats a fact!!!

i think the fact he's now an england international was a factor in asking for more £££, met him a few years ago an was fairly down to earth lad but from sounds of things that looks to have changed.
