Pearson should've conducted personal interviews on a one to one basis(every individual member of staff), to find out the root cause of last seasons problems.

Players and/or Staff, who have contributed to Gentle's demise,should be served notice.

Then,he shouldve scoured the RL world for Gentle's successor, should've appointed a Head Coach, or a Director of Coaching who has at least some experience in Head Coaching, this is not the time for yet another unproven Head Coach.

Terrible terrible appointments. -IMO.

I dont see how a Second Rower/Prop and a failed Hooker can give us the fluent and exciting attack we have been missing for a few years

Another season or two of "transition" before our new head coach is found to be out of his depth after becoming even more unpopular than he already is.



End of 2015 season and Pearson will have seen his season pass sales fall yet another 2K but at least this time, he won't have to wonder why.

Personally, I feel that anyone willing to stop supporting their club over something as petty as this is not really a true supporter. Yes, what Cooke did was bad and it hurt like hell but it was six years ago for crying out loud. Whether you agree with the decision or not (and we don't know as yet that he's coming back remember) you shouldn't turn your back on the club.

Quite frankly if you do turn your back then we can do without your "support".

Peter Gentle played for Mansfield Marksman so on that premise we should of been overjoyed by our attacking feats.

Hope the new coaching set up works, certainly going to be some passion there, and the Mr nice guy approach of Gentle will be different, more like the Fergie hairdryer treatment I guess.

All the hype worked against PG (as well as some of the players) and it would seem our targets will be more realistic moving forward, with talk of top four etc banned, Will be interesting to see if any players are moved out as part of this root and branch review, as someone mentioned earler the review has been completed very quickly so likely it was taking place with PG still in charge, the CC run probably placing it on hold for a month.

I will be renewing mine & my sons pass, hope a number of doubters reconsider, but can understand why some are disillusioned.

Brain Smith and Tong Smith didn't have a great RL career, both of whom are are good coaches.

I cant believe that people don't realise that your playing ability has nothing to do with how good a coach you are.

So many examples in sport where average players have made great coaches and managers and vice versa.

The appointment of Radford I hope will be a good one, he gets my support. Coming from in house the club won't need to find housing, Visa's, Lee can hit the ground running, he knows the club inside/out, he knows the players and the make up of their characters.

I asked the question to AP on FC Live, if Andy Hay would be replaced?

He stated Radford would absorb Hay's role & duties, in other words - not replaced.

Coaching staff is one role ,that has no restrictions on spend.

Wigan have 4/5 coaching staff for each team, 1st, Under 19's, Under 16's. by my maths thats 15 members of staff.

I'm all for any ex player taking the helm of a professional club, but come on, none of the 3 mentioned have had a stint as assistant coaches at a successful club. Anderson and Wayne cut their cloth under decent coaches.

This all seems similar to wire giving Jimmy Lowes the head coach job, only for him to be bailed out by Smith.

I'll admit i was wrong if all goes well next season, but I just can't see it.

We need to get off to a good start in 2014, but really can't see us being in a relegation battle, the recruitment for 2014 was all but done before PG was given the bullet (and we may have dodged one on the proposed Mika signing). Don't forget Radford was in sole control of coaching the defence last season so in that area we are already solid (Hudds playoff & Saints at home aside) so if we can improve our attack who knows, I think 6th again.

I agree,most coaches tend to have been average players,probably ellery hanley would be an exception but as you say brian and tony smith,daryl powell,mark aston,shaun wane,paul anderson, even richard agar all better coaches than they were players so hard to predict how radford will do with his limited coaching experience.

In 2013 a crap coaching unit was sent to the KC by a chairman who knew nothing about RL. These men promptly fail to deliver the big promises and had some lucky escapes. Today that unit will be replace by men that will not cost a fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Teamers.

Some very good players have been pretty poor coaches - Alex Murphy, Andy Gregory, Garry Schofield - and as others have pointed out, some pretty average players have become very good coaches.

The reality is that Raford is an unkwown quantity. He could be a very good coach or he could be a disaster.
