Shame Obst & Jefferies play for them and not Rangi Chase
Its a shame to see any club go to the wall, wonder if they will get the same help as Crusaders? Good luck to the Wildcats, hope they can sort it.

Wakefield will survive as a club, but I very much doubt they will be in SL.

| OK, not been an expert on these things, is such a petition the start or end of this process? Is there a chance that Wakey could be wound up at the start of Feb?
If so, would they just be able to restart under a new name?

Well if they cant meet the payments that they owe they'll have no choice to call it a day. Maybe they should just merge with Crusaders and bring the Crusaders squad to play in Wakefield. Sound familiar?

Yes. Although if they can't raise the cash needed they will almost certainly go into voluntary administration before the hearing in order to avoid being wound up.
Quote ="Bal"If so, would they just be able to restart under a new name?'"
I think being wound up is effectively liquidation, so all assets etc. would be disposed of in order to pay creditors. Not sure if there are penalties for the BOD or not.
If they go into admin instead then they have much more control over events and would most likely re-start and drop into the Championship at the end of the season.

| Will the players become free agents ?
Obst , Jeffries and the young full back may attract the attention of a few clubs.

your not wrong, i have stated many times that wakefield are one of the backbone clubs of super league and the whole of rugby league should rally to help never mind asking fans to donate, other clubs should be digging deep to help being paid back later on is my view but I am speaking because i truly feel in my heart for the locality , the businesses that will be effected, the future of rugby in the area and i know first hand how the players are feeling at wakefield right now because i have heard it from one or two mouths directly and it isnt good!!
It is time the rugby league stopped monkeying around with new developments and concentrate for a number of years on the heartlands and making sure that the current teams in all pro divisions have strong backbones to protect them in the years to come, instead of a management situation the RFL should become more benevolent and understanding towards the smaller revenue earning clubs and support them.
If they wish to make the super league a level playing field it makes more sense to concentrate of the heartlands and supporting the lower earning teams till they progress upwards with management advice, marketing advice so on and so forth along the lines of pooling information and resourses for instance why not send our marketing team to wakey for a week to advise and help with shop point of sale etc etc, send wigans cheerleeders in to wakey centre to hand out flyers etc, you know what i am saying all these small things can only help cant they??? i for one would be more than happy to help if i knew a way to help them....
whilst some are cold hearted and say "there is no conscience when it comes to business" take a moment to think of all the people who would loose their jobs if Wakey fold, were supposed to be a family sport so what about those families??? i know i am maybe a small minority but i feel so strongly about the way the RFL have thrown good money after bad in wales , london and other lost causes of cash . Rugby league is a northern M6/ M62 sport and thats what they should concentrate on in my opinion and that includes looking after our own if they are in trouble....
how super is super league if we let this club fold ... NOT

| I don't see why other clubs should dig deep to rescue another club. Did other clubs offer us money when we were in a similar position??? Wakey will be replaced by another heartland club, be that Widnes, Halifax or someone else.
Did Widnes get this kind of support when they were in dire financial straits, the clubs never rallied around for them and this time round should be no different. If Wakey fold they will be resurrected, then instead of the Wildcats they can become the Phoenixes
I also feel the RFL were wrong in helping out Crusaders as they may well have set some sort of dangerous precedent with that situation. You know how sneaky lawyers are these days, if the sniff a chance of anything they will go for it tooth and nail.

Personally i think thats very sad to say because the RFL didnt do this or that for this or that club then no one should care really sad
maybe its time things changed and the RFL family as a whole began to care because as long as my arris points south if Wakefield go under a pack of cards will unfold, add that to the Union poaching and many other issues effecting our game and its a bleak outlook, maybe just maybe we should now close ranks, hunker down and create an inner strength... oh and by the way Widnes did get help (undesclosed)

Whether Wakey fold or not will make approximately zero difference to the potential hard times ahead.
While I have a great deal of sympathy for their fans, 90% of the trouble they are in now is down to the actions of their BOD over the years. Giving the same people more money to waste would be madness.

That would make a lot of sense to many unless of course you live in those areas and support those teams however from our own clubs background I am sure we would all advocate the saving of an old guard club by using a merger to do it, this may be the way forward in these hard times to come for many of the smaller earning clubs in west yorkshire
