| If you were a current member of our squad how would you feel. They are reading in the press that they may not get paid in October because the money is tight and the clubs total ambition for next season is to survive. They are being asked to put their ambitions on hold for a season in the hope that we come out the other end still in super league. They don't know who they will be playing with or who will be left when the season starts.
We are asking a lot from them, the future of our super league existence will be in their hands plus some on loan and some from the youth team. All the time they have the continuing uncertainty after all it is their careers. I am not surprised if many wanted out why stay at Wakefield.
I think those that pull on the Wakefield shirt next season deserve our full support it is not their fault that we are in the position we are, to be honest without the money we will get for some of them we would not be here now. The improvement in our squad has been a benefit because in the past we have had one player worth anything in the transfer market. I fear however, we will be unrecognisable from the team that played this season. It will be interesting to see how many we have when training starts.
In conclusion having said all the above I think we would be stupid to think we could survive if we sell more of the current squad but that will be down to MC & KH who have taken on the responsibility for our future.

| Where would they go if not at Wakey? Brisbane Broncos?
We can't have more than 3 top line and 6 decent players that could get into another SL team.
Unless they all go to London, where everyone of them will get a start.
I'm sure people propagating unsubstantiated rumours on Internet forums is really useful though.

| You should ask the question of the club because I have not read anything that would fill me with optimism.
With regards our current squad, we have sold Smith & Amor, accepted an offer for Cockayne. We have at the moment rejected an offer for Kirmond plus rumours persist regarding Aiton &Poore. That's not bad out of a team of 17 and much better than in previous seasons. I thought we had finally stopped being a selling club but this off season could be the worse .

Would you rather have a team or no team at all?
Without no team, there'd be nothing for you to discuss!
The optimism should come from the fact that you have someone who wants to turn the club around and is proactively acting on what fans want. It may take 3 months, 2, 5 or 10 years (who knows what may happen) to sort the club out and properly rebuild for a sustainable future but it is ultimately the fans that keep the club in business and give the club the impetus to compete. I say the same thing to Cas fans.
You may have to sacrifice the odd player and bring in a couple of loans to tide you over but if they do a job and let you finish 12th then the job will be a good one. And I suspect the target right now is ensuring your club finishes 12th and above.

Trinity need not be a selling club if their supporters backed them to the tune of 4k adult season ticket holders. While ever we're hovering below 2k money has to be raised somehow.

| Because every negative poster I read haven't renewed theirs, and you know why? In my opinion the negative one's only need the slightest hint of a reason not to re new, it might be Ted, it might be JE, it might be AG, but if you are of that mentality you'll not put your money up..... Why? Because they're all hoping someone else will get involved!

the future super league existence as always been in the hands of the players . Most of them are well paid individuals and who at times with a little more application last season could have secured better results and we may have finished in the 8 ...we showed we were capable of competing with the best it was sometimes with those seen as equal to us they let us down...v Cas at Manchester , v Bulls and Hull KR away , and Bulls at home . With regard to the finances no its not directly their fault we are where we are we could have offered them less money and they may have chosen not to join us , then we would be where we are now risking losing best players and signing more unknowns. Truth is the club are doing now what should have been done 2 years ago signing players on contracts we can afford and not on ones we cannot.

Well said Feline.
The fact of the matter is that, in life you can look for reasons to do certain things or, reasons not to.
Now is the time to stand up and be counted and not to look for reasons to walk away.
Realistically, some will not renew their S/T's and these people are the same people that will be on here in 12 months time, moaning about our league position etc, etc.

I know a few long time supporters who have not renewed because they are basically fed up with what they are seeing.
They are waiting to see what type of squad we finish up with before they decide to continue. All they see at the moment is a board of directors that have no money selling good players and replacing them with no one or players of questionable quality.
Buying a season ticket is paying something for a product. You can't expect people to hand over money when they don't know what they are getting.
I bought all ours ages ago when the plea first went out. However I don't have problem with anyone who is waiting to see what happens before they buy as I understand their reasoning.

Why should I? Your the one with the problem and the über negativity.
Not only are you a depressed supporter you're now also setting yourself up as some sort of players welfare officer.
Times are hard, we all know that. Most of us with an ounce of intelligence can equate tough times to a weakened squad also, perhaps you need to realise that too.
If you are so distressed by it all why don't you do the same as MC and CB and put your home on the line to back the club?

Certainly not my view, WT are not like a normal retailer such as WH Smith, Argos etc (other retailers are available and they can sponsor us ). I am not as eloquent as some on this board ('er indoors wants to know what elephants have to do with it. I've told her we have signed one as a prop) and I hope that they can help me out here to express my viewpoint better than I can (now there's an invitation for you).
I am not buying a product, sure I seek value for money etc. How many retailers have 'customers' watching and commenting upon every move in the shop, in the store cupboard and in the Boardroom, every minute of the day. How often do you talk about, think about, read about ASDA during the day - I don't. To me WT is in my blood, it's a way of life, part of the local and my culture. WT is not like a normal retailer like Gregg's (I hope all these sponsors pay up!) so basically I've bought a season ticket not knowing about the 'product' on the field - hoping for the best, but I'm buying Wakefield Trinity (not literally MC) , but I'm buying my small share.

| Its a catch 22 situation. Club are stating unless we sell enough season tickets we will have to sell more players but some fans want to know what the squad is before committing. Something has to give and clearly as the club cannot spend what it doesn't have (which is what got us into this mess in the first place), it needs the fans to renew.
I am as disappointed as anyone that we find ourselves in this situation, but Elston has gone and the guy signing off on the deals has said if we reach the required level of season tickets no more players will leave. However, the number needs to be reached in the next month or two, otherwise MC will have no choice but to cash in on further player sales.
I would like to see people backing him in what is our biggest season since the million pound game year. Especially as we have had the benefit of ultra cheap season tickets for the last few years and that by renewing at what is still a cheap price, they will give us the best chance of assembling a squad capable of finishing in the top 12 next year.

Agree with all of this. My season ticket is already bought but many are waiting to see whether they would be paying perceived superleague prices for a championship quality team. And I can't blame them for doing so, if i hadn't blindly bought initially then maybe i'd have done the same.

| Yeah, cos us long term supporters have been so used to seeing Rugby Leagues biggest names in the rw&b??
I just dont get it? The floating fans who came when the tickets were cheap and we looked like we were going to atleast compete, fair enough, but people who class themselves as 'long term supporters' have surely seen us with worse sides on the park.
When you look at the teams we used to put out in our early years in super league, its all credit to Andy Kelly & then John Harbin that we are still in with any sort of chance of competing at this level at all. Boy we had some absolute dross. Although we dont know what we will start with i still dont think it will be as bad as some of those teams!
Yes, we have all been through this before but surely this is what "supporting" a club really means. Too easy to make half cocked excuses. If you want constant success go follow Leeds or Wigan.

| I can respect all the views of posters on this thread. I also understand supporting Trinity is a way of life and all that.
Like many on here I dug deep without question many times in the past and will probably continue to do so.
However you have to realise that people out there who attend games do not feel the same as we do. They do it for enjoyment and entertainment. When they stop getting that, they find something else to do. Its no good calling them disloyal or bad supporters they are just normal people who don't quite have the same level of passion as some of us.
We need those people on board and to do that we need to give them a reason to buy their tickets. Blackmailing them with threats of the team going bust will have the opposite effect. It will scare them off and they won't part with their cash. We need some positive stuff from the BOD to give them a reason for wanting to buy and we are not getting that at the moment.
