| Not last night but everygame how aggressive is this guy to the referee hes got to be up there as one of the biggest whingers in Super League. Sinfield moans but he tries to speak to the referee this jumped up lepricorn aggressively argues with the ref every week and nothing is ever done about it, infact the referees listen to what he says half of the time and blows up. Wellens asked Mr Silverwood to go to the video ref 4 times last night and he did pointlessly and that one when Meli couldn't be bothered jumping was a try he should of had more conviction about him.

| I have to say I thought the same.
Disappointed with him because he is better than that.

| Its coming in more and more, players questioning the ref all the time.
There should be a clamp down and get them back 10 metres.
Sometimes its a clever tactic to slow the play down, which the ref's ough to know.

| bang a few for 10m.
i don't buy this "i'm the captain" nonsense, the way that wellens and sinfield bleat/sneer and whine needs stopping. both are considerd role models for their long careers, neither is a role model in my eyes becasue i don't want to see the next generations of players think it's ok to challenge the referee - EVER.
i remember getting marched 10yds for mouthing aged about 8. my coach subbed me straight away even though it was the first half, and i was made to write a letter to the ref by my club. best lesson i ever learnt.

| I have to agree - the captain's right to speak to the ref is being abused, with certain players from 'big clubs' more guilty than others. It's now become a tactic in the NRL for the captain to speak to the ref at strategic times, with Simon Mannering and Mick Ennis probably the most blatant exponents - in this weekend's Doggies game, Ennis approached the ref whilst his defence was getting set and the ref just gave him the 'talk to the hand' gesture and said "not this time Mick." If the Aussies are starting to cotton on, I hope we'll follow.
Interestingly, as someone involved with junior rugby, I can say for certain that young players do emulate what they see their professional role-models do; they're also heavily influenced by the behaviour of the adults who are supporting them - if Dad or Coach is constantly questioning the ref, they'll do the same.

Couldn't agree more. Especially the dads and coaches. Some are very good but some are terrible. I would never want to be a ref and definitely not at age group level.
We have always had a good rep for respect of the ref. Its about time we got back to the true spirit of that.

| there's talk of wellens signing for another year. he's always done really well considering his distinct lack of pace, but he is so gifted in his ability to get into the right place to make a tackle and his backing up is second to none. sadly he lets himself down with his gobbing off. it threatens to sour peoples' memories of a fine career.
sinfield on the other hand.... well i've never really got him. he tackles high (always accidentally), he's third/fourth man in, he's not big enough to be a forward, nor quick enough to be a back. he's been blessed with reasonable hands and excellent goal kicking ability (which no doubt has taken a lot of dedication) and great from the hands kicking when not under pressure. right time right place, always in a big expensive squad.
for me he's biggest skill has been avoiding injury.

I have to disagree about Sinfield. I know there is a lot of noise from other clubs saying he isn't as good as he is billed to be but for me, being above average at everything makes him exceptional.
There are many players like Offiah as an example who have one skill but as they are so good at it, elevates them to legend level.
Sinfield is just very good, not excellent. But he is very good at everything.
If it was just about being in a great side he would have been dropped by now.
Different coaches keep him as Captain. He is a big game player no doubt about that. And he makes others look good.
I imagine he will make an excellent coach too.
As far as Leeds are concerned, he is possibly their greatest player ever considering the trophies and longevity of his career.

| Sinfield always has a better game when he keeps his trap shut more, example when they knocked Wigan out of the cup.He did very little questioning the ref and got on with the game plan and had a very good game.Leeds would have been a very different side without him and not enjoyed the amount of glory they have had.It is about time the ref started to say Im in charge ask me why and I will tell try to change things and back 10 you go.

and there's the rub, that's the conventional and generally accepted view - and i just don't share it. he's a model pro, never in bother off the field, in fantastic condition etc, but how lost did he look at belle vue (perhaps without maguire) last week?
as if to take away my own legs though, he put three tries on a plate for hall becasue we didn't pressure his kicks. his tackling was poor, his distrbution poor and his goal kicking wasn't up to standard.

I've heard the same, but it's hardly relevant; if he's such a model professional and a nice bloke, it's even more of a shame he lets himself down by showing a lack of respect towards the official.
The thing that peeves me about it though, is that if Danny Kirmond did the same thing, it'd be a whole different ball game.

It's the "man trying to fly" renditions we get every time he disagrees with a decision that gets me. Looks a reet plonker!
