| andy farrell didn't become a great goal kicker at birth, he practiced and practiced.
we could do with some of the lads getting some practice in. any half decent kicker in our squad would be a shoe in on the team sheet.

True
Yes a good kicker can make a difference of about 6/8 league points over a season. From what I saw of John yesterday he seems to have come on since his efforts at headingley but he still has a long way to go. However the conditions were very bad for the kickers yesterday so not really a good day to judge.

| It's not good enough to have just 1 recognised kicker in the modern game. A team needs at least 2 recognised kickers plus a couple of other part time kickers who can take over if required.

| He did kick a bit for the Vulcans. Some seem to have rated John as a poor kicker already. To judge him on the evidence of kicking in that wind yesterday and the gale that was blowing at Headingley on Boxing Day is a bit unfair. It might be the case that he can't kick, but he has hardly had a fair chance to show us yet. Let's give the lad a chance.

| Maybe John hasn't had the opportunity in the past. Think Seymour was the main goal kicker for Vulcans, and Maloney for the main team. As stated on the forum practice, practice, practice. But of course there must be more than one goal kicker for sure.

| Was saying yesterday that we need to make some decisions on who will be kicking and have them in doing extra practice.
There will be plenty of games over the season where missing 1 or 2 as opposed to 5 or 6 will be the difference between winning and losing.
Those kickers that have 80% and above success rates practice and practice again. That's what we need our kickers to be doing.

| RA said in his post-match comments that they're aware of the kicking issue and will be 'getting someone in' to help - I assume that's a coaching/practice intervention rather than a new player, so hopefully we'll see some more consistency.
I wouldn't want to be over-critical of John's kicking in yesterday's conditions - the wind was swirling about something chronic. Especially given his outstanding overall performance - I thought he made Rangi look positively ordinary.

agreed.
no slight on john at all. if he's the best then he's the best and he's stuck his hand up and getting on with it. i just think we need a better kicker full stop.
for a pro-rl player that can kick a bit, two hours a day 250+ days a year practising should produce a superstar. far better than smashing a nandos.

Also important when adding pressure to the opposition or letting them back in to the game if we are missing the extras.
