Richard Agar says what we have all been thinking about James Child. Terry Matterson also said he was awful and i have spoken to a couple of Cas fans who said Child spoiled the game.

I like and agree with the part where Agar says the if a player was that bad he would be dropped but Child will be on duty again next week.

I say SACK HIM!

Does anybody know if there is a mechanism in place for officials to be dropped down a league or stood down due to poor performance?

The difficulty for Cummings is that Childs performances are in part the product of his training, advice and directives from Cummings himself.

Therefore it's highly unlikely that Childs will receive the full severity of discipline his performances deserve and the clubs, ourselves included, will not be publicly backed. That's because the greater the punishment and the wider the publicity the more incompetent Cummings looks.

Maybe then they should have truly independent assesses in the stand watching and an idependant body who rules on poor performance.

The only problem with that, much like Video Refs at every ground, is who foots the bill, because the clubs won't agree to a cut in their funding to pay for it.

I can see where you are coming from but i cant cost that much to have 4 or 5 people to go round the games and assess referees.

Maybe if the RFL wern't propping up Crusaders and Quins they would be able to afford it.

James Child is part of the expansion of rugby league and is so protected from being dropped.

I can understand Agar complaining because if it costs him his job I too wouldn't be pleased.

He's a decent ref and a very good touch judge, and I'm notorious for official bagging! maybe if teams cut out the niggle there would be no complaints.

I disagree, he's poor at both.

His lack of confidence and experience really shows - without the ability to use discretion and common sense, he resorts to pedantry, to the point of spoiling the game. The players don't respect him and they get frustrated with the incorrect decisions and the spoiling nature of his officiating. It then becomes a downward spiral - the more frustrated they get, the more penalties he awards.

For me, he should go back to the lower division for a season, and watch a few videos of Mr Ganson in action.

But when he ruined the game at millenium magic no 1 gave a toss !!

Matterson has complained about his performance on the 2 occasions Cas have had him. Ironic as they won both games, Cardiff and Hull.

I think that shows how bad he is when the winning coach is complaining.

Clan you are so right about the training he gets ,Cummings was a terrible ref himself and that is the main reason that refs are not getting any better.

I think he also stitched us up at Cas last season. He must have a soft spot for Cas?
