| Quote ="Sesquipedalian"Like it or not most coaches will have a core squad of around 23 or 24 players whom they'll pick their team from, if you're outside of that, albeit within the wider squad of 30, then you know your challenge is to force your way in.
In the final few weeks before the season the coach will want to ramp up the quality, intensity and intimacy of the training sessions and you can't achieve that with 30 players. A higher degree of focus will be applied to those players who are most likely to pull on the shirt in the first few games of the season, that's the nature of elite sport prep.
Those outside of the 23 can take it one of two ways, get demotivated, bitter and give up or or use it as motivation and target someone in the 23 as the man they will replace and fire up for the challenge.
I've no doubt that the coaching team will have spoken to every player and explained the whys and wherefores of the pecking order. Each player will have a programme for improvement whether it's technical, physical or mental or a combination of all three. Some players will have had a brutal assessment of their ability explained to them in explicit detail they won't like it but some will handle it and some won't.
This is elite sport we're talking about not some amateur club where half the lads only play for social reasons, this cut throat so players need to man up, stop moaning and buckle down, Which I think they're all doing.'"
exactly
I think it has all been taken out of context, what do you all want them to do go on a all week bender

| Exactly TRB. I believe this is the first year of full time training for slater and annekin too so they would have had to have done exceptionally well to get in. feel for Moore and davey after their performances on Friday night but we have to trust the coach.

| Quote ="BIGAL1"Does it matter if they would have gone elsewhere if they don't get a fair shout, it makes no difference that they are retained if they don't get into a full time environment.
I understand its not been going long enough for these lads (1873) but i would like to know what improvements have been made to training/development, its not just about keeping chosen players at Wakey is it, if they don't get the correct advice and training they won't make it.
Just because we stop players moving to other clubs won't help them or us.
We should be making a big splash about how things have changed and the new way forward for juniors at Wakey and not just retaining and holding back talent. Do you agree since the wholly grail meeting we've seen/heard nothing about youth policies.
Do we have new conditioners in place, do we have forward thinking coaches, are we bulking/dieting these players correctly.
Its probably a bit off thread topic but forgive me.'"
I certainly agree with what you say. Isn't this something where the ST can act as a conduit between the club and the fans. Certainly, if the structures aren't being changed, then they will lose alot of contributors to 1873.

Hear what you and Big Al are saying and we will take this up with the Club.
I agree the members of 1873 would like to know what changes/benefits 1873 is making to the Club but we have to remember 1873 is still in its infancy and we have to let the Management run the Club as they see fit but we will raise the issue.

Cheers SC. I agree with what you say, but the communication from the club has greatly improved overall and this is one area where we haven't heard much. The odd progress update would be welcome and should be something that the club are able to provide.

Thanks, i'm not suggesting that nothings been improved and we all understand it takes time, just think it would be right and proper to let the fans know how the moneys been spent.

| It's a shame a couple more lads aren't going especially for team building purposes and morale.
Agar must be honest and straight forward with some of the younger lads, and make use of Dual Registration to enable them to develop if he believes they're not to be in his plans for the season.
He can't please everyone, but he can give them the best opportunity to progress as an individual and to possibly come back into the frame at a later date.

Gareth Moores been carrying a leg injury and has only done about 50% of the training sessions that the others have. Far from being ostracised from the club he's been well looked after by the physios and has been told straight where he needs to be better if he's to have a chance of becoming a 1st team regular. He's not going to France for a number of reasons but his place in the pecking order and his injury are the two main ones.

| To clarify:
There are 32 people travelling in total. The ones who are going are mainly those who will feature in the game at the end of the week.
It is not unusual for a club not to take ALL it's players.
We have also had the 3 day trip to North Wales, and that did include the younger players, so we are not doing too badly in that respect.
As SC says, we will have some dialogue with the club with a view to getting some details of the Junior set up presented at some point - there is certainly no attempt to hide anything and, if asked, the club will explain the situation - so we're asking.
HTH.

Gareth Moore aside, as a generalisation we've struggled to consistently move players up from our academy. If the likes of Davey, Annekin, Spiers, Slater etc etc aren't to feature then fair enough. But let them get regular first team rugby elsewhere and utilise the Dual Reg. It seems to work for other clubs and i'm sure it'd help develop those individuals on the fringes of our squad

It all depends on what level they're at, they may have been judged to be at a stage where they're better off under the guidance of the club on a day to day basis.
Dual reg is right for some players and not for others, it's a good thing for a player when entered into at the correct point of their development.
For some of our more prominent juniors it might be too late, maybe they've missed the boat while under the Kear regime and now it's felt that they'd progress better under the guidance of our in house coaching and conditioning.
Whatever, the thing is that it's subjective and in our case it's the collective opinions of our coaching team that decides what's best.

| If there's only room for 32, someone can't go, because the coaching staff have to be there, along with conditioner and physio or whatever. Those that don't go, let's see how they respond. Maybe it will separate those who really want it from those who don't. And let's face it, if we start picking people from outside our main 23, we have real injury problems.

He's been told that he's not in Agars plans and has some work to do to rise up the pecking order and overtake Smith/Wildie/Wood & even Kaye. That makes him 4th or possibly 5th choice scrum half and with this in mind it's been suggested to him that he would be better looking for another club. That's not meant to disrespect him it's just a cold assessment of the situation and is meant to be as fair on him as it is on the club.
To his credit, Moore has steadfastly said he knows he's good enough and wants to fight for a pace and prove Richard Agar wrong.
Why you want to paint Agars decision as something other than plain and simple team/player management I don't know but like one or two others on here I'm getting a bit vexed off with your constant sniping.

Wind your neck in fella, I didn't suggest that Kaye was going to be our starting scrum half merely that Moore has been told he's got a number of players ahead of him, one of which could possibly be Liam.
Read the post again then again and then take a minute to think about what it actualy says then formulate an answer.
