It has been suggested by a couple of members about transfering
monies in the organisation bank account over to the Squadbuilder fund.

If everyone agrees then I will contact the people necessary
and arrange for this to happen.

Just a short note to Pickled Onion :

All money is accounted for , not 'floating ' around , safe in a bank account
With the two people who need to sign for it poised to transfer it
to Squadbuilder..... Just waiting to see if any members object to that.

Much nicer to raise things in a more civil manner than you did.
If you feel that strongly about Pirag then join and organise the meetings
yourself. Then maybe you would see the constant brick walls we were up
against , organising meetings that no one show up to and just the total apathy
from all corners of the Cougar family.

I've been reading the Pirag posts and I feel very sad that this initiative has not moved forward. I am a member and Mr Buckan put a lot of work into it. Burley Cougar has done so much to make it work but nobody seems interested. If the post that On the Terrace wrote was true about the meeting with the directors then they treated the group trying to help the club disgustingly





If I had been Margret Procter I would would have told them to stick it up their a****s but all the fans recognise how much you have helped the club, a big thank you from me.
Please give the money raised to squad builder ASAP.

The post I make here is not necessarily in support of those who ran PIRAG, more in support of the concept of an independent supporters group.

It's disappointing that people like Pickled Onion make posts based on assumptions rather than facts - why not back up your theories with some figures?


Please show evidence to the part in bold text. Show: facts, figures, pounds shillings and pence, complete with dates when money raised by PIRAG was at the expense of squad builder. You will also need to show variables caused by the recession and the performance of the team and will need to consider that the membersip fee of £10 was a one off and not a regular donation like squad builder.

I am not trying to be rude but unless you are a member of PIRAG it's none of your business.


IMHO the idea behind PIRAG was sound and done for the right reasons, but the type of fans who once would have supported this have been alienated by past administrations at the club. It would take a monumental shift in policy for the new management of the club to get this type of fan back on board again. I realise it's not the fault of the new board but unfortunately it's what they have inherited from the past regime.

Question for Pickled Onion:
I'll repeat what I wrote on another thread: According to the Leigh board, during its life, LISA (the Leigh Independent Supporters Association) have raised over £350,000 for Leigh. It just gets really annoying when people shoot from the hip based on rumour and without any facts to back up what they say.

Incidentally, the wife and I donate to squad builder too and this post is in no way, shape or form a dig at the great job they do.

I'm not sure if a message on an internet forum is the proper way to do this or whether you would need to call a meeting of all the ordinary members and take a vote. Without knowing everyone's real name and then checking this off against the members list how can you know that an internet opinion is valid. There are people on here who are obviously out to cause friction.

Anyway, the wife and I vote for the money to go to squadbuilder.

PS not having a dig at you, you have obviously tried very hard to get things moving.

I am sorry to say this, but 3 times fans have tried to start a independent group to raise money.
I was involved in the second attempt.
3 times it has failed.

I can honestly say the fans have not been to blame.

Would i get involved in any other attempt. No i wouldn't. I know a lot of people who were involved in the first and second attempt. They will not get involved again. Maybe a lot of fans feel like me.

I do not have a complete list anymore so this was the second best option
to guage a general opinion.
I personally do not have time due to business commitments to arrange another
meeting , especially if no one is going to attend like the last two.

The general feeling is to transfer the funds
and as this was the original objective of the organisation I cannot see a problem in doing so.
The 2 people who are signatures on the bank account have been approached andnd are both happy to proceed.

I am more than happyto get involved with future Pirag events should things turn round
and get sorted out

Yep , total shame , look at what Leigh fans did , if we had only done a tenth
of that it would have made such a difference.

My final comment on the subject.

It's my opinion that the Gary and his fellow board members are not transparent enough in what they do and I get the impression have put up notional walls around them. I compare this to that of 20 years ago when the board very much had the support of the Town and it grew from there. I've said as much to Gary but whether anything will change is debatable.

It's easy for fans to blame the club and for the club to blame apathy amongst supporters. Whilst this is the case I don't think we'll ever move forward. An ISA can work, but has to have the buy in of the club IMO. If both parties were to engage and have that transparency it could work. In my opinion PIRAG didn't have that. Whilst I accept the key to the ISA is "independence" I do think if the club and ISA are opposed in views etc it's never going to take off.

An ISA should not be a threat to the club, but a partner if you like. No disrespect to anyone, but maybe those who were in essence voices from PIRAG had a "past" relationship with the club and could maybe have been perceived as a threat. Equally, if the dialogue was open and honest that should have been resolved.

I don't have the answer and understand the frustration from supporters who give up their time and effort. This is just my opinion.

That was precisely one of the points I made. People should be able to put aside their differences when working towards a common goal.
