Pretty much agree although I do think he will manage to get one some day. He has shown before he can beat all 3 he just needs to meet in a slam final with one of them and have them not be at full strength. Usually there is one standout performer in tennis at the moment there are 3.

quite right,a real bottler - no idea how he managed 8 major singles titles plus 2 doubles against the likes of Rosewall,Lendl,Borg & McEnroe - yes,a complete and utter failure ..........

No. Still waiting for someone to put forward any reasons why i am wrong. Lots of insults and comments from Sheep like you but nothing that persuades me that Murray will be anything other than a nearly man. The more Murray speaks the less likely i think it is that he will win anything.
Murray has so far bottled or run out of steam in 3 big finals. Challenge that point with any reasonable opposing view and i would be happy to concede.

Murray's mum may have helped him get to where he is but I can't help thinking that she is now the barrier to any further success.
It's about time he did a Lewis Hamilton and say, "thanks for all the support but I really need to kick up a gear now. Go home and get the tea on"

the chances are he won't ever win a GS but to call him a 'bottler' is out of order IMO - he is still a great player in anyones books - maybe the mental toughness that may be lacking should have been instilled in his younger days or maybe he's simply not quite good enough at the very highest level ? It's no disgrace coming second, you get used to it being a Saints fan...

| Surely it is the case that i am entitled to proffer a position and then others should shoot it down. Murray has being a very good player. he played some top tennis in the tournaments he has reached the finals off.
In those finals he has however failed to deliver maybe he has just being beaten by the better player but he has never lived up to his billing by the British press and is overhyped.
he has never won a set in a final or really pushed his opponent not many tie breaks and this is the key point. if he was losing sets 6 to 4 or 7 to 6. He seems to crumble in the big games in a way he does not in say the semis finals he has played in ( usually when facing similar calibre opponents that he faces in finals)
In two of those finals he did not just lose but lost dramatically against federer in 2008 and djokovic in 2011.
Is it a mental thing or a physical problem ie Stamina ( he also has a persistent knee problem )i do not know. Until he wins however the British press need to stop building him up as some sort of world beater.
Now go back to my original two posts and this is the same point i was making then.
1 The british press need to stop building him up until he actually delivers
and
2 Does he have the mental strength to win a Grand slam.
his recent comments about wanting a break, wanting a normal life and =#FF0000winning titles is not the most important thing suggests he does not have the same focus, mental toughness of say a Borg or a federer.
Surely as a top sportsman at his age winning should be the priority then he can look foward to a normal life.

yeh, agree with most of that and you actually managed to make a contribution WITHOUT using the word 'bottler' - well done !
He may be 'overhyped' but that's the british way it seems - to build someone up then knock him or her when the results are not so positive.
Just accept him for what he is ie. a top-class tennis player and revel in it when/if he acheives something worthy of such praise.
The british press it seems to love a winner as much as they love a loser ! peverse isn't it ?

| So all the tournaments he has won - including six Masters Series titles, contested by all the best players in the world - are totally irrelevant because he's lost in the finals of Grand Slams?
That's a strange way of judging someone's character and ability.

That is a totally different argument to that of him being a bottler. The British media overhype just about every half decent sports person that comes from these fair shores. If you are using the judgement/hype of the press as evidence that Murray is a bottler then you have lost before you have started. Anybody with any knowledge of the game will tell you that there are better players than Murray out there despite what the press may have led you to believe.

| I can't see him winning a Grand Slam - which like it or not is the measure of how good a player is once their career is over. My issues are that he does seem to play poorly at the very time he needs to be at his absolute best, and that I've never seen him play anything like the level of a Federer/Nadal at their best. I also wouldn't call him a bottler, but he is ridiculously overhyped, as Henman was before him.

He may not win a Slam but he is number 5 in the world on merit, has won a number of Masters series events and has reached three grand slam finals at the age of 23.
He is a World Class player and therefore hardly overhyped.

Though being beaten by a better player doesn't make him a bottler as was the original suggestion.
