I doubt that they'll rescind it.

But you can these days, we all know that. The first point is to get out of your group, that is the main thing. you can lose the odd game along the way and stilll win the tournament.

But like a lot of united fans, i'm very disappointed that it seems like Carlitos is going. I really think he is something who would die for the shirt, give 100% effort. The main point being apart from rooney who else as a striker chases back 60+ yards to win the ball back apart from Carlos?

Not sure really, it's tough to call. Still think it was 50/50 whether it was a red or not due to how far out Kamara was and where the ball was travelling.

Apolgies, I meant to put the first two UEFA Cups we won in the 70's, before the Champions League format came in and took most of the good teams away.

As you know we beat Alaves in the 2001 final, to win our 3rd UEFA Cup.

I did put that bit in the original post, but perhaps didn't explain very well. Not taking anything away from your last two wins, just mean its not harder to win the Champions League now than the old European Cup.

Surely it is easier to win the Champions League, in the old days it was a 2 season job (win your own league then the European Cup) now you can scrape 4th and be 20+ points behind the best team in England, Italy, Spain or Germany and still you can win the Champions League the following year.

As has been pointed out, you could lose as many games as you liked as long as you won on aggregate (final excepting).

No doubt, there were some top quality teams/big clubs in the old days:-

Roma, Benfica, Bayern, Real Madrid - all teams that Liverpool played in Cups 1 to 4

However Liverpool did also have to face the might of

Odense, Aberdeen, OPS, Zurich, Crusaders and of course, Brugge.

I think it's harder these days for the reason you cited - top 4 in England eclipse most, if not all of Europe. If we played under the old system, United wouldn't have to face Barcelona in the final or Arsenal in the semi and Liverpool wouldn't have played for the Euopean Cup since George Michaal was straight and Michael Jackson was black. United would still be on 2 wins as well.

<BTW - I'm not belittling Liverpool's achievements, but they did play some dross to get up to 4. Although to be fair, so did United - Arsenal and Chelsea for starters.

This season has been the acid test for Liverpool. They've done almost everything they've had to do, except win the title. They posted their best ever points tally, only lost 2 games all season, scored the most goals, unbeaten at home all season, unbeaten against the other "three" (including doubles over Man Utd and Chelsea) yet they still never won the title. Unreal.

They will be hard pressed to match or even improve on this years exploits next year. It will take some doing.

Big question here, are any Liverpool fans on here, big enough and brave enough to admit that Rafa's attempt to take on Fergie with his "facts" were the major undoing of your season? Also I'm amazed how much coverage a team who has failed has been given on SKY...even dug Robbie Fowler up.

I'm not sure, Mark. We'd had some poor results before it happened, then after it we had some shockers after it. We'd already drew at home with Stoke, West Ham and Fulham before it. I don't think one single act - like Rafa's rant - can have such an impact on a season. We'd had poor results before it, and poor results after it, our biggest undoing this year was the poor fitness of Torres for the first half of the season, IMO.
