| Our marketing seemed to go downhill when Mick Hogan left, and again when Simon Collinson departed. I'm sure I read somewhere that Martin McLoughlin was head of marketing but I thought his career up to that point was as a coach? It seemed a bit left field unless there's two people with the same name.
The salary cap debacle at the start of this year didn't exactly paint our finance department in a positive light. The independent tribunal found there was no deliberate breach of the cap but that meant when it comes to the salary cap they didn't have a clue what they were doing.
Hopefully good appointments will be made for both positions.

| A member of your marketing team left a couple of years ago (maybe slightly less) and got a more senior role at Warrington. He’s been a major part of their overhaul in terms of their marketing and social media content. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but he’s certainly got people talking and created a lot of interest over at Warrington. Fair to say he’s been a loss to Wigan too.

Paul Macleod. I don’t know if it’s purely down to him at Warrington but he certainly has had a huge part to play. In fairness to Warrington they’re not trying to widen the brand of RL, they’re trying to widen the brand of Warrington Wolves which in a town as big and diverse as Warrington with RL being the only top level sport in the town, is much easier to do than at a club like Wigan.
That’s not an excuse by the way, we ought to be doing an awful lot better than we are, but it’s reality.

He is, always found time to have a chat about the club and rugby related things in general. He was a big loss at Wigan, but I think the media/marketing aspect is very fluid and I expect he'll move on again in a few years time.

| I'm not sure who it was in charge of marketing at the time but Bradford in the 90's were something else i think it's the best matchday experience I've ever witnessed

Bradford aren’t exactly the ideal marketing model to follow. The match day experience was good at the time but was it cost effective?

Peter Deakin is probably the man you're thinking of.

| Why is there no salary on the marketing role? No job vacancy post shouldn't have one. Will put off loads of people looking at it.

You will find that most jobs nowadays tend to opt for the ‘what are your salary expectations’

I don't think so. In fact in an interview situation it's probably one of the last things discussed.

Speaking from personal experience in this sector, it certainly won't be one of the last things to be discussed. Anyone worth their salt would ask for the salary range before agreeing to go for an interview. Personally, I would include my own salary expectations in the application.
Reality - they are only looking for someone with 2 years experience, so it is more of a mid level role than a senior management position, so salary probably looking around £25-£30k. The job spec is not very detailed, compared to the Financial Controller position. It reads to me as if they have already someone lined up for the role (either internally, or an external candidate) and want to go through the process of being seen to do things properly.

You're probably right on that last point. Will be interesting to see who gets it.
