Stats from Luaki and Flower arent bad considering most people think they are crap. No missed tackles from Hughes is quite good too considering the situation he was put in.

Based on these stats, and general perception of the first two games, the only change I'd make this week is Faz for Tuson.

I'm glad for Flower. His M/C is very good, he does need to up the number of carries he makes though. Mossop once again superb, it's the reason why he was in my top 3.



Agreed. Keeping Spencer on the bench might be just what we need, on a no doubt heavy and slow Odsal pitch. Tuson will struggle if it turns into the arm wrestle that I'm expecting it to be.

Metres per carry isn't everything though. It can be very misleading (as can total metres made) if a player returns a few kick offs and drop outs.

Flower always runs the ball in hard and just keeps on going, but if you make 8 metes per carry and get dominated in the tackle it isn't as good as making 5 metres per carry and getting a quick play the ball.

It's not really a criticism of Flower though, he's not the biggest and does his best every game but I do think he's lacking size for a prop.

Mossop is just a beast. He's the next Morley/Peacock in my opinion, which is great for England since those two are coming to the end of their careers.

great signs from hughes whos looking like hell stay on for carmont all through the injury. keep up the defensive efforts, and i dont think many will complain about attacking threat.

Tuson shouldn't be near the first 17 in my personal opinion. Can't see what he offers at all

Hansen and McIlorum. 39 and 34 tackles made. Superb. Hansen needs to step up this year and do what Hoffman did last year.

Mossop back to his usual self with 119m. I still think we would have beaten saints in the play-offs he had been playing.

Wasn't Lauaki going to be a penalty machine? Only one conceded and that was for punching Bailey, which is quite forgiveable IMO.

We commented after the game that it was nice to have Hock, McIlorum and Lauaki on the pitch. It's been a while since Wigan had a bit of "muscle" when things get a bit tough.

Feel a little sorry for Tuson at the minute tbh. He's only really getting scraps in terms of minutes and it's tough to really stand out in that sort of time. He's really bulked up in the off season which is something he needed to do. To see the benefits of that though he's going to need more gametime IMO.

It's tough to see how he's going to get it though.

As for the others great efforts from Charnley, McIlorum, Lauaki, Hansen and Lockers and as ever Mossop is just a beast. Our best prop and one of the best 3 or 4 in the league at the moment with the potential to be the outright best.

Hansen wouldnt be far from a complete second rower if he could add a more consistant try scoring rate to his game, hes got the size, pace and runs belting lines too.

He needs to add ball handling ability IMO as that's what stops him from being able to create tries in attack like Hock does, and like Hoffman and Joel Tomkins did.
There aren't many second rowers who offer the complete package though.

A back three that consists of a runner, a tackler and a ball player always works.

All of our forwards proved they have the potential to belong in a top side on Saturday in my opinion.

I like what I see from Flower. He's rock solid, another Mick Cassidy which is no bad thing. Lauaki on form will provide useful impact. Hock is showing good signs of getting back to what we know he can do whilst Mossop is terrific - a cert for the England starting 13 at next years World Cup.
