Its a big 2 weeks for ourselves.

We play Leeds, Saints and Wakey in the next 3 games.

This is another big and very important period in our season.

We just seemed capable to click through the gears to pull clear whenever we needed to. Slightly frustrating to not see us play for the full 80 but again i think its a sign of our ability as a team to do that and come away with the win.

I agree, but I've now got to the stage where I really want to see us finish someone off totally convincingly.

Even switching off for the last 5 minutes is frustrating. It allows the opposition to claw away at your points difference.

Scrappy but a wins a win, I just felt we were never going to really get into gear, but thankfully in the end we didn't need to.

We were our own worst enemy 1st half, giving away stupid penalties. Second half we used our heads a bit more and ran out comfortable winners.

Numerous penalties.
Kicking out on the full.
Not playing the ball correctly under our sticks on the 1st tackle.
Scoring wide out meaning Pat had difficult kicks to convert.

All contributed to a tight first half.

Yeah, as everyone else has said, scrappy, not helped by Phelps' injury and the referee's performance. Two points from a visit to The Jungle is always good, though.

I wont believe any of them are missing until 8pm on Friday.

This is just an attempt from the Leeds camp to detract the pressure off the side at this present time ahead of the big game.

We have heard it all before. Friday will be a very tough game no matter who Leeds send.

That pitch looked awfully small today, and Pats NFLesque kicks took a while to find their range.

How Fielden wasnt awarded a penalty under our own sticks in the first half still puzzles me.. The Castleford mon was all over him.

Well complain about the scoring outwide, but im finding it a joy to finally see two wingers on the scoresheet every week (even though Mossy moved to FB early on)

Your right Dicky, Friday will be an extremely tough game and it's important are players don't get sucked into the mentality that Leeds are a weak side and easy to beat.

Leeds will come all guns blazing on Friday night no matter who's in their side.

Not complaining about scoring out wide, loving it in fact.

Cas were in the Wigan 20 three times and scored off two of them.

TBF i demanded a big win today and although it was certainly closer in the first half then I would have liked I still think we were clearly the better side.

A few of their tries were soft especially the 2nd Shenton try.

Not bad seeing Sam & Phelps were injured, we had a kid on debut and the ref kept them in it!

Lots of valid points on this thread I'm inclined to agree with. I think we may be taking the bait a bit if we read too much into the whole Leeds injury crisis thing. At the end of the day they are the defending champions and have a squad and coach experienced enough to deal with injuries at the start of a season. IF we beat them next week the record books will show that we beat the reigning super league champions and we remain two points clear at the top of the table.

Materson moaning as somebody else has said just seems to be indicative of the responses to getting beat by Wigan this season:
"We need to scrap video refs. If Solomona hadn't dropped that ball..."
"We need to do something about slowing down the play ball it's ruining the game, the fans don't like it..."
"Some of their tackles were too high..."
etc etc etc sounds like it did in the good old days.

I said on the "cas commentary thread" that I'd like to see us keep a tight defence for the last five minutes of a match whatever the score. I don't think we're anywhere near that level yet whereby we can afford to switch off. Two sportin cliches spring to mind:
1 Good teams are ruthless and kill off the opposition.
2 Good teams can get the win despite not playing at 100%

Finally: Scoring out wide - I remember one of my first posts after joining this forum asked "is it just me or do we not use our wingers anymore like in the glory days of Offiah, Preston, Myers etc?". I for one am delighted to see Roberts and Pat topping the charts and the centres wading in with plenty too. It means we're playing proper rugby again.

I know we have been scoring more on the wings but alot of Roberts tries have come when he has been playing full back and were scored down the middle

Last season Wigans wingers scored more tries than any other clubs wingers (in total) , and as a team we were the third highest try scorers behind Leeds and saints.

But how is that possible, it was all 5 drives and a kick..................

I was made up Mossop gave McGoldrick a crack after he was mee mawing at him at the PTB, Mossop was really standing up for himself, maybe the enforcer prop we crave?

Scrappy, but then again you can only play what's in front of you and Cas aren't going well at the moment. Against tougher opposition, I expect us to up our game considerably.
