One thing is for sure, no-one will be cutting his arm open falling drunkenly through a swimming pool door up in the wintry wilds of Scotland.

As he put to me when i asked the question of kipping on his sofa "You'll have to bring some blankets as i dont put the heating on downstairs"

Tropical up here today 5 c . With the thaw well under way the lads will not be snow training, they will be white water rafting down Edinburgh's Royal Mile.

Trips like this really do bring a team together and strengthens the bonds rather them than me though -18 sounds horrendous

Like a post above warm weather doesnt help when you come back to cold weather and playing friendlies in rain,sleet and allsorts, it just proves other times we/other clubs have gone to "warm weather training" they have just gone for a jolly boys holday a couple hours training the other in the pubs.

Given some of the stories I've been told of thier time camping last year, this could be interesting lol.

Do they only have pubs in warm weather areas? No pubs in Scotland?

I've always found this anti-warm weather attitude by some as a bit confused. Given the pre-season is probably about 12 weeks, I've yet to understand how a few days or a weeks warm weather training is suddenly going to make them soft when they'll have been training in the cold the other 11 weeks. Some clubs go abroad because they know they'll be guaranteed the weather to use the pitches etc.

Was talkin to ben davies...poor lad has spent bout £300 on thermal gear for the trip!!!

I suppose it's just what the coaches prefer in that case. I'm sure the players would rather spend the time in warmer climate for their free time, but you'd expect the intensity of the training sessions to be of a similar standard whether Madge takes them to Inverness or Ibiza.

what three days are they actually going? the weather could get quite interesting between the 16-21.

Cold weather training = more chance of injury, cold muscles, slippery surfaces and the like.
Warm weather training = opposite of the above.

I can only think that this is more of a team bonding exercises,

It all depended on who took the training. In Radlinskis book he said when Monie took them there he worked them into the ground and the whole point in going there was the amount of daylight they had they used to have 3 training sessions a day. When other coaches took over it became a holiday.

I think the warm weather training under Madge would have been awesome as he would have flogged them.

Gawd, anyone else remember last time they were involved? We've come a long way!

Had a little chat with one of the players today. will put up some of the things he told me .....
it was with 45 commando in arbroath. When the players turned up the marine PT instructors informed them that they were there to break them , mentaly and physicaly.
This consisted of sleep deprevation , log runs sand dune runs various other activities. They were not allowed to walk anywhere on camp they had to run everywhere. They were woke at 4 am one morning after being told they would be allowed a lie in. They were doing guard duties through the night. All in all it was a very intense basic training. anyone who has been in the armed forces will know what i am talking about.
as of the players , you cant shut jeff lima up and Brett finch is a nutter who makes everyone laugh a right joker.
Wigan are the only team to have gone up there and had no one drop out .
