Fielden, Bailey, Carmont, Coley if necessary Hansen. Potentially also, one of Prescott and O'Carrol, Pryce, McIllorum.
Run up front with Bailey, Feka, Mossop, 1 of Prescott and O'Carroll, Davies as back up, Hock to offer support when his ban ends.
Mateo to play at 6 Tomkins to run at 7, TL at 9.
Gasnier to play wherever he likes!
Unsure of the quota status but from a financial point of view i think it could be possible, although Mateo would be the last on my list of targets should there be quota issues.
I fully expect Bailey to be in SL in 2011, but sadly Gasnier will go back to the NRL and Mateo will also probably remain in the NRL and who can blame them at the age they are at.

Cant see all them leaving, IMO for the 2011 season we will be signing a Fullback, Centre and Prop;
1.
2. Roberts
3. Gleeson
4.
5. Richards
6. Tomkins
7. Leuluai
8. Prescott
9. Riddell
10.
11. Hansen
12. Tomkins
13. O'Loughlin
14. McIlorum
15. Feka
16. O'Carroll
17. Mossop
IMO a few current players will surprise some people in 2010.

| Quote ="Paul Youane"Hence why I entered this debate suggesting that Stinky Turner may not have been wise having a go at Wigan's academy. But at the same time the current Warrington set up is a long way removed from what it has been for many years.
To be honest winning trophies at reserve and academy level is missing the whole point of the exercise if those players don't go on to win trophies for that club. The last Warrington Academy team to be successful (and I think they might have lost the final to Wigan's in a curtain raiser to the Premiership Final between the same clubs at Old Trafford, although as I type I think Warrington may have won the Academy game) contained Sculthorpe and Harris and whilst they may have kept the club financially alive all the medals they subsequently won meant nothing to Warrington.
Its all well and good going on about the failings of Warrington's academy over the last ten years but in harsh terms of major trophies at first team level Wigan's has been such as un-successful.
Either way I'm pretty sure that over the next ten years Warrington's academy will produce it share of full level internationals even if at least three of them will be for Wales.'"
I agree that it matters not who wins what at Reserve and Academy level its a mute point.
The entire system should be aimed as providing clubs with quality players, the trophies at that level are a nice perk.
After that point I find it dificult to agree.
Producing Harris and Sculthorpe both players who have now retired is a shambles for a club like Warrington.
Secondally Wigan have not failed because of the Academy/Reserve products they have failed because they imported too many poor/average players.
Wales players are not full international players in real terms in the current game and will not be in the lifetime of the current Wire Academy lads.
I would also be interested to see you name the 7 players who you expect to kick on to be England Internationals.

| I don't want to look to far ahead really because we're a while off even starting 2010 yet without moving onto 2011 but the players i'd be targeting would include Moi Moi, Luke Bailey and Mcarthy-Scarsbrook at prop. After that it's really hard to judge what we'll need because we can't tell how certain players will devlope or how some of the more experienced guys will go on.
We may need a centre so guys like Inu and in a dream world Gasnier would be more then acceptable.
As I say though i'm more excited about 2010 tbh before thinking of who we may need in 2011.

Completely agree but the whole point I'm making is that is now history and Warrington are currently producing as many Academy players for their first team as Wigan currently are.
Quote ="jonh"Wales players are not full international players in real terms in the current game and will not be in the lifetime of the current Wire Academy lads.'"
The thing is that in the current Academy at Warrington there are three true Welsh players who will play for Wales (two scouted in South Wales as schoolboys and moved to Warrington the other ex-Llanelli Scarlets). One of these is considered to be a "stand-out" player within his age group and is likely to play first team as a 17 year old this year at some stage for Warrington.
Quote ="jonh"I would also be interested to see you name the 7 players who you expect to kick on to be England Internationals.'"
Not sure I mentioned 7 however to take this figure and deduct the three Welsh mentioned above then I would expect the following to have a good shout at making the grade at international level:
Ben Harrison; Mike Cooper; Ryan Shaw; and Kieth Holden and/or Liam Hulme.

Same here, it all adds up. Phelps only given 1 year deal, as Cruncher said IL is a big admirer, the 'bringing wigan back to wigan set up' and the fact that Briscoe has said in an interview he would love to come back to Wigan.

I would hope with MM's connections and knowledge of the lad Widdop would be a target for us, he is off contract at the end of next season and does not look like replacing Slater as the Storm number 1.
There is a real buzz about the kid every time i read about him.
He is also young and British.
Tipped for International honours next year by many in Australia despite not playing a first grade game yet.
Regards Briscoe, i rate him and he is a quality Wigan player and lad but I am of the opinion you should not go back, especially at the stage he is in his career.
Phelps needs a huge season to justify a deal beyond 2010 in my opinion.

Indeed, not that long ago either as I understand it. Its not as if he has been brought up in Australia think he had been in the Fax Academy prior to the move to Australia.

| Widdop would be a risk as he would be pricey for a player of his age, we would have to be certain he would make the cut at FB.
IMO he could be more worth while than Briscoe though as he would not cost as much on the cap.

Briscoe showed how average he was in the Four Nations, where he looked as slow as Wellens ever did but more ponderous.
If he wasn't from Wigan none of you would even mention him.

the truth has no place on here concerning Briscoe.
We have a fantastic looking prospect in the reserves in Vievers I don't understand all the fuss made about a decent-at-best FB just because he's from Wigan. This policy of Wigan and Wigan only will get us nowhere unless the Wiganers are of the right quality.

Vievers is a Wellens clone, a lot of heart but no pace. Marsh imo is a better fullback prospect.

| I'd worry about how Briscoe will shape up as the years roll by tbh. He's not blessed with too much pace as it is and he's bound to lose a yard as he gets up towards 30. He'd be 27/28 if he came to Wigan for 2011 and we'd probably get a good couple of years out of him but i'd like to see us have a player in the position who'll nail it down long term.
I thought Phelps did enough last season to suggest he's got the potential to do that. He has things to learn in the position but he's got the basics of a very good fullback.

| Re: Phelps, whilst likeable and solid I think that long term Wigan's overseas signings should be of a higher calibre.
What I mean by that is 3-4 Top Class Overseas players with rest made up of First Class English players (Wigan produced and elsewhere).
That was the winning formula for years.

Sadly, I feel it may be beyond Phelps' ability to cement himself into place in the one season he now has with us.
If Ian Lenagan's vision comes to fruition of only having two or three overseas recruits but all of the highest standard, then I don't think that will include Cameron Phelps - unless he improves beyond recognition. At present he's a decent and willing journeyman. Try as I may, I don't see a star-in-the-making there.
Even without IL's plan, the overseas quota will steadily tighten in the next fews years, and the likes of Phelps, Bailey et al will be squeezed out.

Rightfully so in my opinion. We as supporters have been waiting a long time for the overseas quota to bite, and over the next couple of years we should really benefit from that.
While other clubs may be forced into playing youngsters and British players who simply aren't ready or good enough, we should be able to capitalize on this opportunity with are better youngsters.

I agree on both counts jonh.
With Briscoe, we all know why he had to leave Wigan, but he never got ahead of Wellens, did he? I think HKR may be one club too many and he will be better off being a big fish in a small pond until he retires and gets his nose fixed.
With Phelps, this is a big year for him. He improved greatly at the back end of last year, and if he can kick on in 2010, I'd be happy to keep him for 2011.

| Personally while i agree Phelps must improve to cement a quota spot, i have to say after a shakey start i saw enough real quality in him to think he could be a long term Wigan player, he does need to hit the straps in 2010 but he very well could be our Mic Withers (Bradford version).
