| First up. This isn't negativity for the sake of it, but more like constructive criticism.
The club are advertising for a Sales and Marketing Executive

This, whilst welcome news that points to DH having bought into the 3 year plan malarkey is a massive error at the off. A quick read of the job description exposes that what they are actually looking for is a Sales person to hammer the phones, flog sponsorship and other commercials whilst also working in the club shop.
My first concern is that we have a Commercial Manager already, who on first appearances it would seem is getting an assistant. Why?
My second concern is that there is little if any "Marketing" in the role. The successful candidate will be responsible for selling everything that is on offer to a wider community audience of businesses but if we have fans, it becomes a thankless task.
As I say, I am not being negative just for the sake of it, but the cart is again being put ahead of the horse and this smacks of some people being under the mistaken belief that writing a letter to lost fans asking them to come back and moving to new ground will deliver increased attendances........and we know from bitter experience where that will end!

I know I harp on a bit, but surely this is basic "101" stuff?
Here are the tasks that I would say fit the 'SALES" part of the advertised role:

Using the word "promote" liberally doesn't mean "market", it means cold call and tell people about it with a view to getting them to buy it.
Marketing is by its very nature a multi-facetted action, of which "cold calling and selling" is the basest form. It's why so many good SALES PEOPLE love cold calling, but this role is specifically about one channel......a sales one.
Whomever steps up I pity them, because how do you promote the idea of matchday sponsorship to a local firm, say GSK up the road, when the attendance is inside 3 figures? What "benefit' do you sell to a local company when 300 of the 500 there are from other areas?

| Not sure what to think of all this. One one level its good - shows that the Club wants to do something about gaining support - fans, community, potential sponsors etc. On the other habd i share changung Man, Molly, gutterfax and his thousand other aliases (why are you using all these fake identities?) that this kind of developments needs a serious business plan and clear roles/targtes etc......

This with bells on. Everything else is simply window dressing. If you're going to attempt to sell a Brand, the first thing you need is brand awareness.
If you call me up and ask me if I would like to invest in attending a business networking evening, hosted by [uBRAND X[/u, it helps significantly if I have already heard of [uBRAND X[/u. The club needs to attract 1,500+ regularly, then invite local business owners to attend a game for free, with a pre-kick off business seminar specifically for them.
Cold calling local businesses and flogging them a networking membership is the realm of these guys.. [urlhttp://www.bni.co.uk/findameeting.php[/url.They are a global organisation and they are the biggest in the field....they currently have groups in Ealing and its surrounds.
