I think "new" officials get given a Quins home game as a gentle introduction, because we've got the least partisan home crowd in SL. Sometimes when we're away up north I'm surprised how much we get, given the howling home crowd geting in the ref's ear.
Last Friday Cas were "the better team over eighty minutes", but we still got the short straw with refereeing decisions: their first try was a blatant forward pass, Williams(?) seemed to be stripped in a two man tackle for their third try, I still don't know why that try of ours was disallowed (it happened right in front of me) and I still think Pryce "knocked-on" for that crucial penalty, i.e. should have been a scrum, not a penalty.

I didn't clearly see the incident on the night and have not seen it on TV since, but putting my amateur referee hat on, if Pryce knocked on and a Quins player, standing in front of him touches the ball, then that is a penalty to opposition / if Pryce knocks on and the ball say rolls into touch, then scrum, opposition feed / if Pryce knocks on and oppostion gather, then play on, zero tackle or if no advantage a scrum. I think that's all correct so decision the right one I think.

Didn't hear too many complaints over the last minute penalty. The forward looking passes for first Cas try, constant failure to get them onside and the fact he forgot the sin bin existed were the issues.

With respect, I'm not sure how you can claim that to be a controversial opinion. Fine, he made a couple of mistakes, but every official does that in every game. I thought he policed the play the ball very well, and the game flowed nicely. I thought the 10 was OK personally. Didn't feel robbed/frustrated at all.

| Not a sin binning for a professional foul when he gave the penalty after Pryce's break then Listy?
On the last minute penalty I thought it had hit a Cas player after Pryce had tried to catch it as did a number of Cas players apparently!

| If a debatable sin binning and a forward pass is all you can come up with, I'd suggest the referee had a fairly good game.

If we're comparing forward passes, the one for your last try wasn't bad either. The difference however was in the action - for our first try the action of the pass was backwards but the ball floated forwards, whilst for your last try the hand motion for the drop-off pass was clearly in a forward direction.
For the penalty, whilst it came off Pryce, the knock-on wasn't complete until the ball came into contact with the floor or another player. If I recall correctly it was gathered by a Quins player in front of Pryce and the fact he'd chosen to do that placed him deliberately offside, rather than accidentally offside, hence the penalty. When I watched it back on the SL Show, it certainly looked right to me, despite the protestations of a Quins fan I was speaking to after the game.

Having now seen it on Boots'n'All - The Tries, I can't imagine a more blatant offside, unless it didn't come off Pryce. Gale was 10 metres in front and picked up the ball. Maybe he thought that one of the Cas players had batted it back?

Totally agree re the offside. I don't know why anyone on here is even debating it. The moment I saw it I thought 'oh christ what did you do that for?'. As for the forward passes you simply cannot compare a long drifting pass with a flat flick pass. The final pass was flat and short and when you get that and the player passing slows or stops it most often looks forward because the ball is carried past the passer in a very short space of time. I think given the speed and the shortness of pass you cannot say any advantage was gained from the pass. The try would have been scored whether it was marginally forward or marginally backward, or level. In the case of the first Cas try I'm not sure which you mean as I counted 3 highly dubious passes in the build up, but haven't seen them again. There was however (between dubious pass 1 and 2) the world's most blatant obstruction with a man standing in front of the man with the ball for several seconds while our defenders had to go round him to make the tackle. Then there was the 3 on 1 strip on Purdham immediately prior to the Cas third try and the Quins disallowed try for a 2 on 1 strip! Go figure.
So the big calls certainly went against us, and I wouldn't count the last minute penalty as a big call. That's the one the ref got right! Thankfully it all ended fair and square but the man in the middle can take no credit for that!

| Pryce offside call was correct call, Pryce knocked on therfore the ball went forward, any player stood in front of him IS OFF SIDE and should not touch the ball.
Should the ref be taking credit for the game ending all square, he called it as he saw it and to be honest it was a pretty well run game
As for stripping the ball, the onus is on the attcking player to keep hold of the ball!!!! if its a lose carry and the ball comes free then its not a penalty, not the refs fault our lot cant keep hold

| So then, to those who were slagging off the performance of last weeks official, what do people reckon of Alibert so far this evening? Constant confusion, cannot control the game whatsoever, several bad decisions, changing decisions.

Are you having a laugh? He has made about 4 absolute clangers already. Ignored forward passes on a consistent basis from both teams. The ruck is a mess, constantly, and he is doing nothing about it. Putting a scrum down and then changing your mind to give a penalty. The man is an embarrassment.

| If a TJ calls the call that you missed ie hands, in why not give it
I agree about the forward pass for the last try- Was it Webb?-whether it was or wasn't I was just saying to the missus I would watch every pass of his as he seems to throw a lot forward.
The ruck is a mess because the Bulls have got tired and McShane is picking and going and exposing the lazy defence- Whereas JJB and his chums are holding down

| PS-is Mac stood at the floodlight so he can get to the exit before the crowds at the end.
If Leeds dont win this he will never get a win-The Bulls look shot.
Have you noticed he has no backs on the bench-reverting to his Quins tactics!!

Alibert should consult with his touch judge before putting a scrum down. And I'm not convinced it was the touch judges call either.
There have been forward passes aplenty for both sides.
Can't disagree with your last point.
