My U16 Broncos season ticket holder is playing his first season of union with a local club only as there isn't any RL junior teams up here that are close enough. Their opponents today was the U13 'B' squad Old Albanian RFC (funnily enough St Albans Centurions is our closest RL club with a junior squad). Anyway, enough about that... as the striking thing is that even their U13 'B' team has a shirt sponsor and the sponsor is LEXUS. I couldn't believe it when I saw it!!!

| I wouldn't say it cant be done, I've sat in enough 5-8k crowds at SL home games to know there's potential. It's just so desperately inconsistent and that is partly down to the way the clubs run and partly down to being generally a very poor team. We need investment and a long term viable stadium arrangement.

because I'd rather say less and get my point across, as in this thread, rather than re-post the "opus" from 2008, 2009, 2010,2011..........
.....simply put, organise a leaflet drop and get the word out locally.

First posted in 2008....strangely, it's where the urban myth of the flowers on the round-a-bout originated......I see no point in giving away what I now charge for. A few of the ideas I posted then have worked for sports organisations here in NZ........if the marketing team at TW2 can't be bothered to put the hours and effort in, then why should I?

Yeah.....it's just a shame that when I was prepared to put the hours in researching and costing stuff, nobody at the club could be @rsed paying any heed to it. Fast forward over 10 years and the club are in the same 5hithouse they were back then.
As Darth Chris has correctly pointed out.....the club doesn't need a marketing manager, it needs a campaign manager...someone who will roll up their sleeves, put in the long hours and ensure that if the club fail, they fail trying!

A bit harsh as I bet the cost of shirt sponsor for the U13s is a minute fraction of what it would cost to be shirt sponsor of London Broncos. And yes over here the local butcher would be a shirt sponsor for a local junior side.
Over here shirt sponsors pay 6 figures. Here's a small idea of what it costs to sponsor other things in first grade here:
the current NRL premiers:-

London Broncos RL last 6 years have an average attendance of 3,569 and have IIRC been on Sky TV 16 times and BBC once whilst playing 79 ESL games and 6 CC games at home.........and losing 65% of these and winning nothing...
In the same period, Manly Sea Eagles have twice been NRL champs, have been on TV about 174 times home and away and have had an average crowd of 14,500.
In the time I have been a fan of the Broncos, Virgin, Streetwise, Win and St Marys have all been lead shirt sponsors....not sure how much cash changed hands, but I doubt it was much. Flightcentre, TNT, VB, Fosters, Batercard, Lensbury and now some dentist bloke have been the minor sponsors......I believe we sold 1 corporate box during the 2010 season, which was 1 more than in 2009...........the ad hoardings on RL match day all seem to be for our long list of Partners........none of which will have involved much money changing hands if any........
Would you sponsor a team that gets less fans and less exposure than some Blue Square soccer clubs?

| GF, tell the geezer the difference in sponsoring a SL outfit would be a couple of quid more than an U13s.
Even the bottom placed club in 2011 here (Titans) still got a major sponsor who will be on front of shirt for around $4.5m for 5 years.
By your argument, would anyone sponsor any club in SL that does poorly or have low attendances?

| GF. DId you read the bit about our average attendance being a lot lower in 1999, the year we made the CC Final ( 2,805)?
We had 11 games that season with an attendance less than 2,500 people.
Somewhere we attracted people for it to be higher for over a decade. Where did they come from?

I'm wondering why our attendances went down in the year we made a challenge cup final? And then up again the following year having moved to the Valley with a team that contained Frank Napoli?
In fact we had attendances of under 2,600 for 7 of the 11 games following that final in 99?
Yet the following season they went up by an average of around 700 per game? I'm truly baffled. Moreso as there was no marketing!

One major factor was the fact that the whole of Castleford were given a free day out at the Valley. You need to look at the detail if you want to make any conclusions about attendances. As I have said before, the venue we have played at has made little or no difference to crowds. Happy to listen to any statistical argument to the contrary but doubt there is one.

Yep. I get what you've said. Castleford game 8,067 in 2000. I'm not arguing about the stoop as a venue JB. It's about the anomaly in 1999.
Am asking gutterfax why there was an average of only 2805 in 1999 even with a side that made the CC Final. Much lower than the ones he complains about of the last few years. Even with the Bradford game that season 8,233. That was the day Diana died if I recall rightly. The only sporting even in the UK that day!!! Thank christ for that as the average would have been even worse at the stoop that year. Cas as you've pointed out brought loads down. 8,067. Can you see that even if each game cancelled each other out numerically, the attendance was still a lot lower in 99 at the Stoop? Seems like we get more down due to the marketing of the other clubs really doesn't it???

The Bradford game you refer to was in 1997 (last game of season). Highest crowd in '99 was 3,567 in Round 5 at home to Saints.
Unfortunately, our gates are influenced too much by how many the away team bring, in that you are correct.

Old age creeping in son, that was the final game of '97 season where 1st was playing 2nd.
'99 was an effing dire season, CC run apart, DS couldn't buy a win and until TR and Les Kiss came in and steadied it up, it was painful to watch, remember the Gateshead sunday lunchtime game? the 2000 move to the Valley must have brought in some local watchers to increase the crowds as well as a few back who couldnt stand the dross served in '99.

Honestly? I have no idea why the crowds dropped off after the CC final year. I do know that there is only one ground we played at where we left with more fans than we arrived there and it was AFAIK the only one where we invited the neighbours in for coffee.......ie, we leafleted the surrounding houses.

Aha. I'm back on track now GF. The marketing helped with regards Brentford as a location.\

G'day Steve. (I'm putting that on, as I don't speak like that. Having a wife from South East London will ensure that). How's River Cottage these days? Are you sure we didn't win every game under Dan Stains?
I wonder what lured some back to the Valley then as it wasn't marketing? Nor the team I'd suggest. The line up for 01 would have been better with the signings of Hetherington, Barnett, Gillette etc. Yeah the attendances fell again? It is all rather baffling. Of course marketing should help, but as they're hasn't been any I just wonder what creates such variables?
