These forums tend to be an oasis of negativity, so while we are all still celebeating yesterday I thought I would share this text I received from a lad who lives in the north east and has recently switched from playing the other code to RL. He's been to the magic weekend, grand final etc but yesterday went with his Dad for their first two Championship games on my advice.



If it is that easy to win support from outside the 'heartlands', Leigh can use today to build upon the current fan base and pull in the crowds the club deserves. Won't be easy, but certainly doable. Onwards and upwards!

Probably without realising it you have pointed out the strategy needed to build the clubs support base , your friend is ' new ' to RL, that is where the club needs to target locally, ' old ' wont be re converted, their issues are too deeply ingrained, only a Challenge Cup win against a Wigan/Saints would impress them, young new fans can be gained from beating Sheffield in a junior Cup Final

I got congratulatory messages from a few Hibs fans straight after the game as well!

I think you are right Steve. A friend of a friend who had never been to a game prior to this year came along and thoroughly enjoyed it. Meanwhile I know a bloke who used to travel home and away until the move to the LSV. I've given up trying to persuade him to return now because I know it won't happen.

This morning is good to be Leyther ,last night was good to , at the Wren post match , Bob B serenading everybody with "Wonderwall ", was priceless ,Riddy first in line for the Buffet .
I hope Hoppys leg injury is not to serious , but well done to the Boys.

Andy, I've been giving this some thought.

We have 4 more home games this season - let's try and use them to build for next year and the future.
I know that it would have a short term impact on income but let's be bold and try and get the NUMBERS into the LSV for those matches.
How? 4 games for price of 2? 4 for the cost of 1 even? Or (dare I say it?) free admission (by "pre-purchased" ticket) for anyone on production of proof that they are from Leigh or its environs?

Of course any of those options could have financial implications (assuming that those speccies would have come anyway and paid the full rate) but I feel that we need to cash in NOW on the feel good factor that is around the town. Get the waverers in through the gate and let them sample the atmosphere and the quality of rugby being served up by the lads.

Next home game is the O2 carnival day it will be a great day

We've two events games coming up, the O2 day and then the Braiden Lee day ,so these will be special games and hopefully will be well attended. I saw some really old shirts making their first appearance yesterday lets hope we may tempt a few of them down.

Need to start promoting the Swinton game as the "homecoming".
Give as many free kids tickets out as possible,get the lads not playing go round the ground with the cup.
Kids can have the photo taken holding the cup alongside some of the players.
Aim high for an attendence of say 4000,maybe more.
Leigh`s goal is to be the best team and best supported in this division and when vou achieve that,you move on to the next level.
I have had a cracking week,birthday last sunday and the leythers winning Northern Rail Cup yesterday

One of my grandaughters will be mascot for the Swinton game.

She is 8 and was there yesterday

Went with my wife on Saturday, it was only her 2nd ever Leigh game and 5th RL game in total. During the game she was getting in to it just as much as the rest of us Leythers, and when we were walking back to our hotel she said "When's the next Leigh game we can go to?" I nearly collapsed with shock! Unfortunately I'm now working the next 3 weekends.
