Thanks for posting. I attended the Scarborough match and it was like being back at Hilton park in January (although playing on astroturf) - horizontal sleet and snow at times.

The referee was from Leigh! It really is starting from the ground up, but you have to start somewhere. Lots of good union converts who will pick up the nuances of the game over time - the key is getting to switch their allegiances from union for good!

Its a short 4 match season which acts as an extended trial for the national team - internationals are already lined up against Jamaica and the USA with potential matches against Scotland/Wales to be arranged down the line.

I think fundraising is going to be needed to get some of the necessary kit and equipment, might have to borrow a few ideas from LISA!

Some very good positives from yesterday with a good turn out despite the weather conditions.
A few of the guys were playing their first league game and all of them want to play in the next round.
The standard is improving each game as well as increasing numbers so despite the result it was a very good day for CRL.
It was great to meet up with mapleyther who i'm sure at one point shouted come on Leigh!

So Scarborough had a homer ref and still couldn't win.

He looked nothing like Homer! He was very impartial actually, and the great thing is that in the grand scheme of things its not about results at this stage, its getting out on the field, having game time and getting to build up the squad. Never thought I would say that about a rugby match but it's true.

Well I did have some chicken noodle soup just before I arrived at the ground but it wasn't much help. The big mistake was forgetting gloves and hat - Spring does it to me every year in Canada, you think spring has sprung and then you get hit with a blizzard out of the blue. Summer will be half over in Britain before it even starts in Canada!

I am not sure which was worse, watching from the sidelines or playing. At least playing keeps you warm, but I don't imagine the astroturf was too friendly!

Thinking back it was a mistake to shave my hair before the game and not take a hat.

Though I would have swapped the 18 degrees and back yard family BBQ for a place on the side lines watching the game to be honest.
Well done to the Centurions to run an established team so close and don't worry you'll get em in the Grand Final

With the prospect of Rugby League teams in BC soon, we could have a Coast to Coast Grand Final one day!
