Why oh why do we persist with the cover defence, we have used it all season and it has caught us out all season, last night it was there for all to see, the wings were dropping back on tackles 2 and 3 leaving the fringes wide open which they exploited with ease, they bombed several opportunities to score, it could have been a lot worse. We are asking teams to attack us, its just a quick look to see if we are open and all night we were. Why when we were being opened up time after time did the call never come to STOP the cover defence and play a full line defence, this ultimately has cost us and has ALL season

Completely agree, we simply don't have the space to cover it. Fev exploited it in the home game against us and we've never been the same since.

We should make the pitch narrower.

its the compressed defence that lost us last night as soon as we compressed to our left they shifted the ball out wide and fast to their left and we were wide open without the pace to catch them, good coaching and good application by Sheffield well done to them.

To be fair though Fred they aren't the only team to successfully use that tactic against us, even Batley managed it on a postage stamp.

Thats exactly my point EVERY team thats beaten us has employed the same plays.

Sheffield aren't worldbeaters as their league position indicates. Neither were Batley & Dewsbury but we made 'em look like it. They even lost their MOM from last week in the first few minutes - maybe with him on it could have been very embarassing.

If they could catch the ball and kick goals it would have been very embarassing

Apparently Ian eluded to our defensive problems after the match. Bit late then Ian it's happened all the second half of the season.

I know we've finished 3rd but that was mainly down to Barrow self destructing. Lots of work to do in the off season. We need pace, power and creativity in spades. I realise it all comes at a price but if we want to progress thats what we need. The defensive side is poor coaching if you ask me, I was talking to a Wigan fan at work today and he said they played exactly the same when Ian was there and got found out.

I'm sure someone will come on and ask where the money is coming from to get better players but at the end of the day that's up to the club. I've put my money where my mouth is every home game, bough merchandise etc so I've done my bit.

And the response to that question, (when it comes on) is to ask where Batley/Sheffield/Dewsbury's money comes from, to acquire their pacy, creative players? They seem to be able to do it on much lower 'gates' than ours.

Can't afford to do both home and away and I have other things I like to do with what money I have. I prefer not to line the pockets of other clubs as people hardly ever seem to come to our ground.

Why ?..........I`ve a ST, a lottery member but decided not to give "away" clubs my money.Nothing wrong with my choice IMO.
