It was quite clearly to soften the blow of relegation having 'the messiah' at the helm of an already sunken ship.

Wasn't a great tackle but I've seen alot worse go unpunished to be honest (and I'm a Liverpool supporter at that).

Shearer's used him as a scapegoat for the team being garbage and him not having any effect on results whatsoever since he took over.

Admittedly Barton is a muppet but seems to me Shearer had already made his mind up about him. It was hardly going to affect the result now was it and having Barton in the side isn't going to make much difference between now and the end of the season because Newcastle as a team are awful.

Barton will go to Blackburn, where a certain Manager thought he could tame him when at Newcastle. The guys a lost cause.

TBF he was on the edge of the England team at the time and 5m isn't a massive fee thesedays but he's had brain fart after brain fart. On his day he's a half decent midtable player but his short fuse really lets him down. Newcastle was his last chance in the top division and has blown it in two seasons and can now see him slide down the leagues although i'd like to see him Keane have a go at sorting him out at Ipswich if only for the team talks

Kevin Nolan got himself a lengthy ban as well for an even worse tackle and he's missed quite a few games but he didn't get the stick that Barton's got from Shearer.

I realise that Nolan's sending off occurred prior to Shearer taking over but I still think he's simply deflecting the poor performance at Liverpool away from the team by heaping it all on Barton.

Nah. I have seen him week in week out....he was never consistent enough to play for England while with us.

Quite a few city fans used to say that and i'd have to go with the views of people who saw him week in week out but he always seemed to show up in big games. I know i'd have rather had Ireland in my team he's really stepped up this season and was suprised he didn't win young player of the year. As Kevster said Nolan commited a far worse tackle a few months ago but there wasn't this much outrage the fact is Barton is seen as the bad boy of football and is jumped upon by the media if he farts in the wrong direction saying that theres only so many chances a player can be given.

That was a bad un by Nolan, but difference is the games significance this time IMO. As a fan I would have been fuming too
Also I saw Mr Ireland at HP in reserve game against Bolton before he got in 1st team and thought he was something special then.

Shearer put a lot of faith in Joey, he was a key part of his plan. Instead of acting as one of our most important players, he loses his head (as always). Shearer rightly condemns in, Barton acts like the insolent primadona that he is and Shearer does the right thing. How is that scapegoating?

He once scored 5 against RMI in a pre season friendly and I thought the same thing.

Oh, and Barton is a cock and isn't fit to be playing in the Premierleague, he is no rolemodel and shouldn't be given anymore chances. He isn't even good enough for a premierleague team. I don't rate him.
