Wire performance or standard of pitch?

It was shocking, I know we've had a lot of rain but that doesn't account for the lack of grass and the tons of sand.

Well wire have room to improve, but Headingley pitch is always like this and by midsummer it looks good . The lodgers Ru get the blame

With any ground share its always the lodgers that get the blame. The RU probably blame you.

What's it got to do with "ME" ? All I'm saying is it does improve greatly come midsummer .my observation and when it does improve it's back to slagging western terrace . My God

I think it's more to do with the new stands that have been built. They are much taller than the previous ones so therefore the pitch doesn't get the same amount of sun and wind to dry it out.

I used to like the old McLaren field pitch them gardens will be nice . Always liked Cas and Belle Vue

I don't think the new stands are the problem. The sun comes from behind the south stand and the pitch does get little direct sunlight in midwinter but the new southstand has a transparent roof so the pitch should get more light if anything. Not sure the southstand is much higher than the old one but maybe wrong on that. I agree the pitch is poor this time of the season, it always is. Not at its best until midsummer.

The pitch has been sanded to mop up standing water after recent rainfall rather than it being underlying sandy.

However there is no doubt that if the pitch wasn't in regular use (apart from Boxing Day) in October, November, December and January the club's groundstaff would be able to do completely change their cycle of maintenance. As it stands the RU club will not be there for another winter so this should make things a lot easier.

I've heard the RU team now play at Weetwood

Just on this the club have said the new stands are affecting the pitch and the new Southstand is about twice the height as the old one.

Headingley however does always seem to be a poor surface at this time of the year it should start to get better if the weather does.

it has been spectacularly wet, they said on the local news that parts of the area have had over 4 times the usual February amounts of rain.

Interesting one this. When I started watching, most pitches had very little grass left by February, just a bit around the corners. Football pitches the same. During the big freeze of ‘63, Cas put braziers all over to get a cup tie played. That pitch had no grass at all. Currently watching Hull v Leeds United, pitch like a green Axminster carpet!

I think Leeds had the pitch dug up and relayed last year too

The pitch always seems to be poor this time of year. They used to blame it on the old under soil heating system, but they removed that and little appears to have improved.

Pitch was crap but it didn't hamper Leeds so a bit pointless mentioning it.

Looking forward to Mondays YEP to see if " The Sleeve" puts a bit of spin on state of pitch
