I have never coached, but presumably getting a defence sorted is a much quicker fix than attack?

Well it's better than 3 or 4 drives and a turnover, which has been a tendency of some previous Wire sides.

I`m cool with five drives and a kick if:

a) the kick is good
b) when we're within 20 yards from their line, we can put in testing plays that give us a chance of finishing with a try
c) we defend well

The problem is (without being dubbed a pessimist) we don’t have any genuine strike players.

Currie of 2016 made room for himself and those around him, the only guy in the squad that looks capable of similar is BMM, in small doses.

Failing that, get as close to the line and kick to Atkins is plan A, B and C.

Getting the defence right gives you confidence that if you turn the ball over then you can defend it.

A) Briers crossfield kick to Riley 30m from our own try line
B) Mylers kick to Hicks after a break.
If those players would have thought for one split second that the defence was a bit iffy they might not have made those plays.
Maybe price is one of the NRL coaches that does not coach an exciting brand of rugby but not all NRL coaches are like that. I watched almost all of the Eels games last year and they were tough in defence but also great to watch with the ball.
When you look at the finishing super league tables for 09, 10 our points against gradually decreased as the points for increased.

I was encouraged by the reaction after Patton's sending off last friday and i have not seen a play the ball when nobody has been at dummy half so i am prepared to give the fella a break - the defence will take a bit of time.

We mullered Wigan with 5 drives and a kick.

If we can kick well into a corner and keep a team within their 30/40 and keep turning them around and forcing their pack to work then our attack will come naturally off the back of that.

After the points we leaked last year and some of the tries scored past us due to P*** poor defending, this year has been a breath of fresh air. our goal line defence is outstanding. if we can tighten up our kick defense and cut out the penalties then we're in a very good place.

We need to be patient and bore team out of games before playing off of their mistakes. Just watching Clark so far this season tells me how well we're going to do once the weather turns a corner. Once Roberts match fitness is up and he's playing on two legs we'll see a completely different team.

I get that same feeling. I think we are in a completely different place to last year. We’re not getting hammered and looking vulnerable at all - we are just indisciplined and lacking in ideas at he other end.

The main thing is the basic defensive structure is looking sound and it’s obviously been made a priority for the coaching team. Now we just need to be patient and let the attack start to come together. I don’t think confidence is going to be a problem this year as there’s no pressure on the players to prove anything to anyone, other than that we can slowly improve on where we were at the end of last season. There’s no doubt we are doing that, albeit slowly.

And until then, what? Remain content with a few scrappy wins, clinging to 7th/8th and hopefully a decent cup run while our rivals disappear into the sunset? I get that we're in a transition period but burying our heads in the sand 'waiting for the sun' to quote Jim Morrison, isn't ideal.

No one is burying their head. Defense wins games so too see our current defense is coping with shoddy attack is very pleasing. Our strike players have had very little time together, bringing in a new half wouldn't change anything, no matter how good they are. It takes time, so until the combinations click patience needs to be observed.
