We've never not been The Wire.
Fans do not associate us with some Americanised style club name with an animal being attached to the name. The rugby league club from the wirepulling town is what we were, are and always will be.

Having worked at Rylands in the 70's it was never know as "wire pulling" it was know as "wire drawing".
If you google "wire pulling" it comes up as actually pulling wire cables.
If you google "wire drawing" it comes up pulling wire through " a die "
So why were we called a wire pulling town? |

Ive always assumed that the terms wire pulling an wire drawing were interchangeable. Could it be that the term wire pulling predates wire drawing and refers to a process which was more manual and less mechanised? |

You're probably right Teesside cheers, maybe I'm just recalling opposition fans of old chuckling and saying you're all wire pullers as a cheeky double Entendre, I genuinely believed the occupation was a wire drawer I live and learn. |

just why your lot are known as "Wire" ????
Goes way back when the team nickname was The Wire Pullers, wire drawing was
one of the main industries in Warrington, ie Rylands Wire, Peter Stubs, The
Firth, Lockers, sadly the industry is all but dead , but Peter Stubs is
still going, I worked there for a while as a Furnaceman, my dad worked there
at the same time and my Grandad worked there for 60 years man and boy.The
official title is The Wolves but to the fans they are still The Wire.
