| When we signed Ryan Atkins i was pretty bullish that we had signed someone with massive potential who would improve even further under Tony Smith, you can't really judge someone in their first season as its a new club and new team mates, he rounded off last year with a top performance at wembley and i was looking forward to seeing him carry on that kind of form this year.
From the games ive seen this season you would have to say that overall he's been a bit dissapointing, he's far too quiet and doesn't get involved enough, also his decision making can be a bit iffy where he quite often seems to take a lot of wrong options.
He's a frustrating type of player given all the atributes he has like pace, power, size and when he's on his game he's a very elusive runner. Maybe he's saving his best for the end of the season, i hope so as we need a lot more from him.

| He has no rugby brain..... he is an athlete who runs hard, tackles hard and is fairly quick.

| Every time there is a good pass on, he cuts inside looks to break a tackle, doesn't and we lose an opportunity, the player that is frustrating me the most lately, but he does have good potential and sometimes he chooses to share it with us.

| I could not believe how much pace he has tbh. Charnley is no slouch, but Atkins very nearly caught him for the full length try.

rubbish, he drew charnley across for king's first and often does very well. He's having a bad patch of games at the minute but still tries.

| He has been playing well last few weeks just when he has a bad day the strong running doesn't seem to be there. Needs to feed his winger more thats all for me.

| Im the opposite on Atkins, when he joined us I thought he was overrated at Wakefield and was not worth signing, and would be a poor replacement for Gleeson. But I have thought that with us he has been very good, he is a very dangerous player, yes not the finished article, but surely you want a bit of raw talent to get excited about, he's got pace and raw power.

| No problem for me.
Has many great games, a few average ones, and the odd poor one....don't most good players?...
Oh hang on....
guess who's leaving at the end of the season
Don't forget, some "fans" HAVE to have a scapegoat to vent their spleens on, Atkins could be their man
N.B. Not accusing RobWire as one of these

This.
I don't see what the problem is. Him and King's wing has been devestating at times this year. He'll run in hard, tackles strong, and is a good centre. Of course he might not pass the ball on a couple occasions when he's supposed too, but every centre is guilty for that sometimes.
He's been good for us this year.

| Lot of pace and power like Joel Tomkins but in my opinion neither are centres and never will be. Great athletes dont always make great rugby players; I agree with one of the above posters, i think he'd go well in the 2nd row if he got a chance.

| I tell you what, check the strapping around his leg on Saturday, I'd hazard a guess that he's playing busted at the minute. The last 3/4 weeks, I think he's regressed a little, the two month before that he was outstanding. I'd imagine though, that could be linked to my opening line, I get the impression he's putting his hand up and playing through an injury at the minute.
Now is the time for him to get this right, if that's the case.
He's been very good for us, and will continue to be, he's an improver, year on year.

| Last year (and from the beginning of this year) he was amazing. He had a few bad ones recently. I think it was hudds when he was really poor. However, I still see him as an outstanding centre.
As people have said, he misses the odd pass but it is okay. He can improve that. I also think he may be injured.
Also, there was similar talk last year about young Myler. I wouldn't swap him for any other 7 atm and it just sows improvement can be made.

| I think its more to do with his decision making, he holds onto the ball for too long at times when he should be letting it go.
As a player i'm a big fan of the Ryan Atkins thats on top of his game, if you look at him build wise along with his pace then he looks on paper to be the almost perfect centre as he can be very elusive and hard to stop (due to his power) when he's in the grrove.
He just needs to improve his decision making and to be more aware of his winger and supporting players around him rather than cutting back inside a bit too much where he tries to run over the top of defenders.

| Did you know Eddeh that only Franci Meli out of the top centres in the league has more assists than Ryan Atkins. Also, the ball goes to warringtons left hand side alot less than it does to the right.

| Is Atkins gonna be the new Clarke now it looks certain he's being shipped off to Widnes?
There were worse players than Ryan Atkins on Saturday but pointing fingers at players who will know themselves had a bad game will not solve anything. There's no other English centre in the league I'd rather have over Atkins apart from our very own Bridgey.

| Nobodies pointing fingers at Atkins at all but people would tell you two or three years ago that Ryan Atkins isn't and never will be a top class centre. Well people did say but they get told where to go as people stick their fingers in their ears and go neeer naeeahhe ehaheh.
Great athlete yes, but he just doesn't have the mental attributes to be a great centre. He will work on his game, get better and go on to be a decent club man but if he ever pulls on an international shirt again it should be on the wing. If you look at Jodie Broughton, same build, pace and plays on the wing. He. just. doesnt. have it. upstairs and no amount of pretending otherwise will change that fact.

| As others have said, he's a great athlete and I think physically he could be a top winger. Unfortunately his touchline awareness is terrible and he doesn't back himself to make the right pass when he has a moment to think about it.

| Wigans defence was excellent out wide, and we were driven into touch on two occasions. Atkins was right to keep hold and look for the contract rather than shipping the ball on. He's been good this season I think? Maybe he will end up at second row, but he's shown better touches this season, compared to last, when he occasionally hurled the ball into the stands!!

| I'm a bit surprised at this criticism of Atkins, I think he's been really good this year. His form might have dropped off a little the last couple of weeks, I reckon say April-June he was arguably our best player. I'm sure there was a thread on here about how good he was ..
