| Was having a bit of discussion on Friday of this question. Are Warrington the best side of the current Super League list to have a chance of winning the World Club Challenge?
Talked to a few Aussies who follow both codes about it, and they think Wigan lacked the attacking prowess that Leeds, Saints have had previously. It's no secret that we have a frighteningly good attack, and have recently added the ferocious defensive aspect, Is it now enough to be the 'World's Best'?
And if priveleged enough, I'd feel pretty confident against most NRL sides. But to be honest, the World Club Challenge is alike any other on the day final, best side on the night will win.
Thoughts?

| Getting ahead of yourself and showing the current SL champions alot of disrespect. It's stuff like this that fuels other fans to take the piiss.

| This was raised a few seasons ago when saints finished top of the league in 2005 and 2006 and 2007 and 2008 with a brand of rugby that gave them the entertainers tag.
Seem to remember the Wigan and Warrington fans giving a resounding no. So I should imagine with the wire you need to ask the question again when the league fixtures are complete and have managed to get to a grand final.
You can,t make judgement over 19 games and like the earlier poster has said....You are getting ahead of yourself, when in reality you are just 1 of 3 teams who are playing with consistently good form.

| Wigan fan in peace
[uIf[/u you do become Champions, which there is every possibility, I do hope you are good enough. But it is impossible for me to comment on your prospects, as I have no idea who will win the NRL this year, or any year, nor how much they actually care in these matches.
Naturally St.George played their absolute best against us, I'm sure whichever team you play if you get there won't care a jot

| I'd still love to see a mini tournament of the top four of both leagues at the end of the season, we could convert the MEN or the NEC and have it on 1 day. 4th v 4th then 3rd v 3rd etc. That would be a good day of rugby

| Still Wigan or Saints in my opinion - our forwards aren't fast enough to cope with the Aussies

| I'd like to say I cared but this isn't like say City fans discussing excitedly what their team's prospects would be in the Champions League....if we win Super League then we have a chance of winning the WCC because we have a good team and because quite often the Aussie team that wins, comes over half prepared and half serious treating it as a pre-season game, if that happens and we're ready then we would win.
But if the Aussie team comes over in ship shape and hungry for a win then they would knock us off just like they would Wigan, Saints or Hudds.
I wouldn't get massively excited about the game either. If we won SL I would still be buzzing about Old Trafford come February and would be more bothered about the new season in SL than the WCC just because of its chequered history for Aussie teams taking it seriously, and if Warrington played the greatest game in our history and beat the Aussie team everyone would still suspect that the Aussies could have beaten us if they'd taken it seriously...
There would be one good thing about beating a half-baked Aussie team in the WCC though, all through the off season we'll have Widnes fans on here banging on about 1989 and it would shut them up!

| as a hypothetical question, although our attack is very good, almost outstanding over here, i'm no so sure it would be anywhere near as effective going up against a well organized and in your face NRL style defence.

| I think that if both teams (super league and NRL) played to there best that any NRL team would win, week in week out the Aussie teams can beat each other and you don't know who's going to win, there game is so much better than ours.
You also need to ask how seriously they take the WCC, it seems recently they have taken it quite seriously but it's normally there first game of the season, we have usually had a few friendlies and 1 or 2 league games by then so we are more prepared.
You have a brilliant team ATM and could win a WCC but I think if the Aussie team came firing on all cylinders then id expect them to beat any super league side

| They way i see it CURRENTLY
Wire, Wigan, Hudds (not on last nights showing though), Saints and Catalans would compete in the NRL.
The rest might throw in the odd performance but would easily be in the lower half of the table.

| I think every team in SL would struggle to fiinish in the top half of the NRL... far superior competition.

| I am pretty confident we would make the playoffs in the NRL.
Morley, both Monaghans, King, Hodgson were all top NRL players, Solomona played in 2 Grand Finals. Westwood and Carvell have shown they can cut it at international level and as for Briers, he is a cut above guys like Brett Finch, Adam Dykes who have been successful halves over there.
I don't think a 6th or 7th place finish would be beyond us.

| Yes Wire are a top team this season but this thread smacks of arrogance and should be left until November IF you win the GF.
It just leaves you open to criticism by getting ahead of yourselves talking about the WCC in June.

Yes they were all top NRL players, I would question whether they would be now.

| Too many people far too threatened by a simple question.
Basis behind the thread was a wider view of SL vs NRL, and from a bit of pub chat, is there a team best suited to match the NRL winner.
