He sounds like a good lad who is happy to be here.

From what I have seen of him, he's definatley one for the future. Enthusiastic, fast, strong runner and can tackle.

2-3 years time will be given a first team jersey im sure of that. Probably ranks up there higher than penny? Definately good competition for places anyway.

He was on our table at the Quiz night. Seems like a sound guy.

How old is he?

Surely gona be a first team regular in 2-3 years maybe after hodgson finishes his 2 years Riley will become permanent full back. he's impresses me when he's played has a good tackle technique and usually gets his head through when returning a kick/scooting.

he solid at present.. he is young.. he has legs like a prop and he is the fastest at the club.

i honestly believe he could just explode over the next few years.

fast strong people are hard to stop.

Not as good a winger as Penny in my eyes, would expect to see KP ahead of him in the pecking order when he returns from his loan spell.

Im just not sure what Kev can really offer to us that riley or williams cant. i think most people would say pace but it has proved that riley is faster than penny in training & williams is faster than riley apparently!

Williams is build like a brick house and reminds me very much of vainakolo when he first came over. And in 2-3 years time i would like to think rhys evans is a solid member of our squad, so just cant see a place for penny & i bet he's on a packet!

I was referring to size and speed. Was not comparing them to each other now, I believe there is more potential in williams than there is in penny.

I can't really argue against the Wow factor as Kev has really shown some tremendous performances in the past few years for the wire. All i can say is that when Kev turns up he really does turn up, when he doesnt then i would get a little bit worried. I would'nt be so worried if williams didnt turn up as his speed, strength and sheer size would counter that.

and the fastest on the books thing isnt that impressive

if he does a hundred meters in say two tenths of a second quicker than penny, what use is it if every time he cuts inside and runs straight into a tackler...

and who's fastest on the books with ball in hand....
who has the skills to evaded defender after defender without slowing down.....thats a rare thing in a winger

its even rarer at our club since the only winger that can do it is playing at another club....

If Williams is cheap i suppose he's value for money as he doesnt look as bad as Ade Gardner...

No, not really. I've nothing against Williams as I've only seen him in a few u-20s and first team matches. But I have seen nothing to convince me he is half the player Kevin Penny is. Yes, Penny has made some booboos but he's also done some great things. Decision making (particularly on position) and some dodgy ball carrying have been the obvious weaknesses and I'd say the latter has now gone from his game (having seen the Quins a couple of times). But think of the positives - speed, swerve, great under the high ball (irrespective of Stevo's ignorance on that fact).

Get him back for next year.

Ok put it this way, is it worth him playing for us next season if it means paying his wages (presuming he fetching quite a sum) considering the wingers we already have at the club can do the same if not a similar job imo. I think we should use the money to strengthen other area which we can be weak in & wingers isnt one of them. Don't get me wrong im a massive fan of kev just not convinced he is the best option.

No, that suggests that Tony Smith thinks Williams is a better option for us at the moment. It doesn't make any comment on what they bring to the team.

I think you have confused yourself. Surely T.S knows what each player brings to the team & that is why he picks them?

If he brought penny back from quins and selected him for first team duties then i would like to think he has selected him because he brings 'something' to the team. Either that or 3 out of 4 wingers are injured.

No, I'm not confused. I am discussing this with you, not Tony Smith. I would not presume to criticise his decisions. You said "considering the wingers we already have at the club can do the same if not a similar job ". I countered, "What evidence is there that Williams can do a similar job?". You replied "Tony Smith's squad selections?". My point is that, by his selections, Smith is saying he would rather Williams was here as standby and Penny is better served getting first team rugby elsewhere. Smith is not saying that Williams does a "similar job".

No but i presume smith thinks williams is a better player/has more to offer otherwise penny would still be here and williams else where on loan. Or do you dissagree with this point?
