| Very sold and astute performance tonight and surprisingly it was his defence that stood out rather than attack. Well taken try.
On that performance and a few more like it he could be pushing for a Wing spot at Warrington and causing the established wingers and Mr Smith a few headaches.

| He's done with us. His interview after the game hinted at that too I thought. I'd wager that the only reason he's here presently is that he'll be on a decent contract as he signed it at the peak of his powers and obviously with a family to support he's going to be looking to maintain that salary, which the likes of Widnes won't be keen to pick up at present.
I think his best bet presently is to make a good impression at Quins, then hopefully be in a situation whereby they would love to take him on and it's a decision for him & his family. They must have cap space, Jon Wells will have been on similar money I'd have thought for starters.
Last night, I thought he was good, still rough around the edges, some of his positioning is poor, but his decision making was better, coming off his wing and smashing Wheeler a couple of times, putting Meli in touch was a plus but there are still times where he ends up in no mans land.
What he did last night, what he's done for us in every appearance he's made is give 110%, and I thought he sort of revitilised Quins last night, maybe he's just what they've needed right now, just a bundle of enhusiasm & energy, when at times recently they've looked flat. They seemed much keener to use him than we have since 2007, looking to kick early, kicks for the corner, running plays from deep etc, it could be a really good fit for Kevin & Harlequins.
I sincerely hope he does well, I love his attitude, I love his sort of naivety and I don't think it's personal with Smith overlooking him, just simply that he doesn't fit into the Smith structure & style of play, but there are clubs in SL, that maybe have different aspirations and almost a different agenda (In Quins case, being exciting, getting backsides on seats, trying to tap into an audience that they haven't cracked yet - they'd have a selling point, a hook if you will ...), I think he'd be great for them.

That's a very good and sensible post, and it's a very similar situation that we have at Wigan with Shaun Ainscough.

| The thing is Penny was an easy target, coz he's young and plus wingers always get targeted.
I really hope he does well and proves the doubters wrong.
Good luck Kev!

| Whern Penny was good he is outstanding, but then after the cup game at Saints where he pretty much cost us the game his confidence just went. Its good that he can do well at other clubs (and probably connected to the fact hes not playing in front of a bunch of haters who are just waiting for him to slip up) but if we let him go I recon within 5 years we'll be wishing we hadn't

| I guess for me as well thinking about it, I think I want him to do well as a sort of 'victory against the system' to some degree. I'm sick to death of watching lumps on the wing who have no ability whatsoever, I can't enjoy watching Francis Meli for example, he might be a component that makes Saints successful, and I'm not for one second implying that Penny is a better winger than he, merely that SL is a product, and I get infinately more enjoyment out of Penny than the likes of Meli. Last night, as a neutral, everytime Quins had the ball I'm wanting them to commit men infield and create an overlap for him, that's what it's about isn't it ?
I've said on here a billion times before, that try at Knowsley Road in 2008, that's my favourite ever try, it's the most breathtaking moment I've ever experienced as a spectator, as a game - the semi at Widnes last year blew me away, as a 15 second thrill, from the moment Penny took off in his own 20m line to grounding the ball, it was just surreal. Anyone who has that ability to do that, there's a place for them in our sport for me, any day of the week.
I guess now, what I really want, and what I believe can & will happen is that Warrington can be a success without Kevin Penny, and Kevin Penny can be a success without Warrington Wolves as I don't think that they're such a perfect fit anymore, sadly.

| Penny has scored several tries, that very few wingers in the world can score. Great feet, and serious pace.
I'm glad he's away from Widnes, he's unlikely to improve on his defence with Cullen looking after him.
Should he improve his defence, or specifically his decision making, then he'd get in the team ahead of Hicks and Riley. Big if though. Good luck to him.

Good post.
Penny has also given me some of my favourite RL memories in recent history. Tries like the one against Wigan when he skinned Ashton, at a time when there was loads of pressure on Penny as they'd started printing the t-shirts and he was getting known in the RL world. The hat-trick against Saints, where he made Gardner look stupid was just breath-taking.
Watching him in full flow is just beautiful, just like it was seeing Offiah in full flow.

| What a great debut performance for us.
Showed commitment & skill in every department & was a definate "Shining Star" in our best performance this season.
Spoke to him in the bar afterwards & what a nice & enthusiastic bloke he is.
Please can we have him for longer than the month !!!!!

| I think it'll be a big mistake if we let him actually go. It would be better for him I reckon, but he's an amazing player that can and has scored some outstanding tries. I'd rather be watching him than Hicks, and Hicks is a great player.

| I would love him at Quins. We don't have the stars that you have at Wire so he would stand out and be a big favourite. We are so short of firepower that we would forgive the occasional brain fart in return for the many tries im sure he will get.
Come on Kev make a new start where you will be appreciated.

| Every time the discussion about Kev Penny comes up the issue of his defence is raised - I bet these same people would have been criticising Brian Bevan or Martin Offiah for being a bit weak in the tackle. What is a winger for FFS? How many players in SL, never mind at Warrington, make you stand up with anticipation when the ball gets into their hands with half a gap, no a quarter gap, in front of them? Chris Riley has done fantastically well this season, but does your heart pause when he gets the ball? Do you stretch up half an inch in height in the South Stand when Matt King has the ball to see him do something that will take your breath away? No. And yet rugby fans all over the country anticipate something when Kev Penny has the ball - not always does he deliver but when he does it is something to tell the grandchildren "I was there" - when he scored at Saints, when he skinned Gidley, Gardener & Wellens at Knowsley Road, the time he left Ashton on the floor at the HJ, goose-stepping away from Paul Reilly, the list goes on.
Kev Penny is an exceptional talent, he puts bums on seats, he excites people. And people would have him out of the club because he's a bit suspect in the tackle. Martin Offiah went hiding when the opposition had the ball & 500 tries says he wasn't a bad winger...

the full length kick and chase against Salford, not sure who it was but he had a 15 start and Penny still beat him

| for me Penny is a more complete player than Riley and i would rather pay to watch him than the Ginger any day.
Riley makes many more mistakes than Penny but for some reason the south standers love Riley?
