| I think everyone who watched Chase play at the back on Saturday agrees that increased space suited him much more, he seemed to relish the chance of playing his favoured off the cuff rugby.
What I'd be curious too know is if Locke does go to RU then do we give Chase a run at full back and try incorporate Evalds in the starting 13, Evalds is one of the most naturally gifted young players around at the moment and needs too play I'd even like too see him tried in the centres as he has the defence and seems robust enough too cope with the demands.
Chase,
MCB/Johnson,
Sa'u,
Evalds,
BJB,
With the luxury of being able to bring in Griffin.

| Not another Locke to Scottish RU post.
Evalds should not be considered to play in the centres, ever. He's far too small and lightweight for that.

| Chase best position could be no.1 but where does that leave locke and evalds???
Locke will play when he is back fit. Evalds could play for johnson but johnson hasnt done anything wrong really but also not set the world alight.

| Out of box thought.
Keep Chase in the "half-backs"but do not give him 6 or 7 role: allow him to wander at will. Dobson and Fages depend on a centre to link when needed (or an old fashioned 13 role person: suggestions?). Both our "9"s on Saturday showed they can link as well when needed.
A bit like how Cas handled him.

| Personally and I know this won't be popular. I don't think we will be successful with chase in the team. I know he can be brilliant, but there'll be too many performances like saints. Little room to play and he holds on to the ball for a second too long. Simple fact if he can't play in the system, you don't change the system you change the player !!

Not the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. I suspect you could be right, but when you've got a player as talented as Rangi surely you need to try as much as you can first to get him integrated into a system.
Without Rangi on Saturday Hull win it's as simple as that.

| Rangi has got all the goods and if he can produce them playing at full back then keep him at fullback.
That individual bit of skill he produced against hull has given the club more exposure than you could ever have hoped for. 17k+ video hits, try of the week, shared on twitter by BBC Sport and then re-tweeted god knows how many times. I would rather Rangi was just told to go and do that week in week out and if he gets the odd thing wrong here and there don’t worry about it! Entertain the crowd and people will start to return.

| There are a lot of knee-jerk reactions to Chase playing Full back simply because he had a good 30 minutes there last week.
Personally I'd prefer someone who is tried and tested in that position before giving Chase a stab at it. I guess it all depends on who we have fit for selection on Saturday.

It read on twitter last night that the Chase video clip has had over 10 million online hits worldwide. Now that's what you call free advertising exposure!!

| Rangi wasn't all that at full-back, don't forget a fumbled a simple catch which allowed Hull to walk in under the sticks.
For a game I wouldn't expect us to win due to injuries I think it's worth an experiment.

| I don't understand how people can say we won't win until chase has gone. Can I ask how? As some people have stated you can't play him in a system are you mad? Someone please remind me of what happened in the last 10 games of last season? If rangi can't play in a system how did we manage to win 7 of those games? Also what have we been watching him do since last season play off the cuff rugby, no we haven't we have seen him play in a structured and systematic game plan and it has worked. The problem isn't rangi at all we won't start to win anything until we get consistent performances from 13 guys in the middle of the pitch not one person. Rangi is one of the best players you will ever watch, he has a great footballing brain with skills and attributes that not many other sl players have. Yes he has his off days but who doesn't. Your saying we will win nothing with him have you thought about the consequences of him not being in our team. No matter how many systems are in place you CAN NOT defend against rangi's creativity on the ball. You say we will win nothing with him I'm going to say well win nothing without him

I agree.
Chase has probably been MK's best signing. He's done little wrong since he arrived. All this nonsense about structured play is just that. Nonsense. Just look at his stats since he joined us, they're certainly not the stats of someone who stands there as a pivot not knowing what moves have been called. RL is a team game where individuals contribute to the whole. If the rest of the team had been as consistent as Chase has (And I realise he has off days) we'd have had higher finishing places, and won considerably more than we have done.
Leave the 'Can't play in a structured team' to the knobbers who see him twice a year and the former player pundits with weight gain problems and evaporating jawlines.

Someone initially makes a comment and others (who can't think for themselves) follow like lost sheep. It's bizarre just how many people (with no connection to Salford) lay blame on Rangi Chase for Tim Smith not performing at Salford. From what I've witnessed Theo Fages seems to do alright and i'm sure Dobson will when he's fit again.

| This I know: several people at work have come up to me and expressed being impressed by the Chase pass: people who had no thought of watching Salford, people who saw RL as clumsy and hidebound, and people who saw that Saints game!
They have no reason to go out of their way to tell me so they have had to be impressed.
Small seeds ...

Wonderful marketing material for the club, that and a couple of bell ringers are what people want to see in RL.

These comments really surprise me Butcher. Correct me if I am wrong but I seem to remember you suggesting you wouldn't be opposed to letting Chase go so long back suggesting that he was too unpredictable? I think you mentioned or were leaning towards the thought that for the salary he was on it would be better spent elsewhere if memory serves me correct? I totally agree with your comments above however because having that unpredictability surely is a good thing?

I think you're mistaken, mate.
I don't think I've ever said anything like that. If you could find it I'll hold my hand up, but I can't think in what context I'd say that.

| not having a dig or anything, I just remember thinking it odd at the time as I actually think you are one of the more sensible posters on here. I'm sure it was when we were going through a sticky patch last year, either way I think its a fantastic weapon to have when your opponents cant guess what is going to happen next..

| I watched the NRL game this morning and the way Parramatta were described as playing Chris Sandow struck me as being how we should handle Chase.
The commentators were saying that Brad Arthur keeps Sandow away from the more structured play and gave him a free license to roam on both sides and work his magic as he did countless times today. Very similar player to chase, both small in stature and incredibly gifted off the cuff players.
