Putting the club's marketing activities aside hasn't the Manchester Evening News, Salford Advertiser, national media, local radio, television and Internet also been doing this for years? Are you under the illusion that people in the city don't know Salford Reds exist? Hasn't the club been promoting Salford City Reds in hundreds of schools for decades and run endless radio advertising campaigns over the years? How many new people has the club attracted to games with complimentary tickets in the past only to find many leave at half-time because the quality of product didn't float their boat?
It's going to take a lot more than canvassing at a few local shopping 's to get people to part with their cash on a regular basis. Success in professional team sports always revolves around money and being able to afford to attract or retain top quality players. I appreciate that a top quality winning team is no guarantee of attracting much bigger crowds but to do it with an inferior or mediocre team is more than extremely challenging as history proves.
What our club needs is a trip to Wembley next year to light the torch paper.
