Salford are alleged to be in breach of Operational Rules B1.1, (General Competition Rules - Laws of the Game); B2:4 (Match Day Operations Manual (section D15 – Interchange)) and Operational Rule D1.8 (a) (serious or persistent breach of the RFL Operational Rules).

| Guilty as charged.
Just watched the last 5 minutes again and Longy had to go behind the posts and bring Griffin off.
We have little defence, but neither does the 4 th official, and we just need to hope for leniency.
When it last happened Saints were fined £100 but that might not have been a close game.

| I've got a bad feeling about this one. I think we're about to lose the two points. As BR said, we've no defence really. The 4th official will just say we didn't go through him when we put extra man on and he'll be off the hook.

| I do get the feeling we're going to lose the points as well. Suppose it depends on what explanation we put forward, if any.
What's the protocol with interchanges though? For some reason I was under the impression that the official in charge of them wasn't to let players on the field until he was satisfied whoever was being subbed was off the field of play.

| I agree , no point in hubris, now we've had our banter with the Cas fans over this .
ultimately , a SL club should know how to make double substitutions without ballzing it up.
we are in the safe hands of the RFL ., who we are somewhat in debt to re the brokering of the deal to bring Koukash into the club ... lets not forget ...yet .
A New experienced coach , RU lads coming over , Good loan signings wanting to stay .... Gaskell your next ?
it's not as if we need the two points for a play off place ....

| To be fair if we've broken the rules we've broken the rules so if they dock us points so be it.
Might in an odd way help with creating a bit of siege mentality.

I'm sure Hinge and Bracket on SKY will say neither team deserved the points and suggest it is awarded to one of their many darling teams. At some point though someone at the RFL needs to ask why the 4th official wasn't clued up enough to spot this was happening as surely that is one of his primary roles.

| My understanding is that the 4th official was from the Manchester Referees Society, for all the Cas conspiracy theorists out there.
Mistake, pure and simple, even Cullen and McDermott say a telling off would be sufficient punishment.

| This will inevitably happen again as it has in the past. Docking points will set a precedent and it could become extremely controversial if it happened in a higher profile game like a play off game, Wembley Cup semi or Final or Grand Final. If the RFL decide to punish us for this joint mistake with the official then fair enough, but I hope there will be consistency and a change to the rules that state that any win is forfeited if a team does it by mistake at any time in the future.
Another can of worms is a team fielding a player found guilty of taking performance enhancing drugs, are the RFL going to reverse results for this if the guilty player contributed to a victory? Didn't Hock test positive following a close win against Salford at the DW a couple of years back? A match he contributed 2 tries in.

| If they do dock us the points, I'd be interested to know if they'd of done the same If we were winning 60-0.

| I believe when Saints did it they won by only one point and the offence was for fielding 14 players for no longer than forty seconds. Therefore, a direct comparison between the games is relevant and therefore, the same punishment should be meted out.
I agree that there should be an open and unambiguous ruling for future offences but this should be done with full agreement with the clubs at all levels so that noone can complain about lack if consistency. You can't give a greater punishment to Salford than the precedent already set without making it clear prior to the the event imo.

Want a bet?
There are a few rugby fans (both codes) in the office and none expect for us to get off with the pittance Saints were fined.

| Despite the outcry on the Castleford fans' forum (at least, I think it's the fans' forum; judging by what's on there, it could equally be a Ritalin User Group), I really I can't see the RFL docking points or wanting the game replayed. It would set a dangerous precedent. Where would it stop? What if a player commits an offence that should have seen him sin-binned but the referee misses it and, two minutes later, he scores the winning try? Should the team lose points? No.

Saints lost by a point when they fielded 14 so the comparison falls down.
