Was talking to a bloke at the game last night and he told me were in talks with Tim Sheens to take over as coach next year. Then I woke up this morning and saw this?

We'll be making plenty more signing next year too I'd imagine? Maybe the talks with players for next year include the assurance that they'll be getting a top quality coach heading the operation?

| Sheens and Long would be an amazing combination.
Much as I like Veivers I doubt very much he'll be head coach as don't think he fits the desired profile as best possible person in every position.

Yes maybe vievers could assist but he's not a head coach, we looked clueless out there last night. We need a world class coach for a world class team.

| Sheens is just putting himself out there and is not putting his eggs all in one basket. I'm sure there would be plenty of interest from the NRL and doubt he would actually come over. I'd love to be proved wrong as I think he'd do wonders for us.

| I just hope we don't go in to free fall now with players blaming the coaching and coaches blaming the players. They are all in this together and they need to stay that way. Finger pointing happens so often when the chips are down and this is the last thing the club needs. I think we will have a much better idea after next week about the unity in the dressing room.

| I knew this was coming.
So Tim sheens is going to allow himself to be coach at Salford ?
What should he know ?
Last year,on this forum, the supporters 'slagged off' Tarry because of poor attendances. The 3 first home fixtures of last season had higher attendances than the first 3 home fixtures of this year.
Last year,on this forum, the supporters 'slagged off' the director of rugby and questioned whether the position was required. It seems it is.The previous director of rugby allowed the coach to have Holdsworth,Moon and Patten (spit ) at the club.Since the new management arrived the coach has had McGoldrick,Rhys Williams and Murphy.
Who would the experts say were the most experienced and easiest to coach ?
How does anyone expect the best possible performance after the stress and trauma of the situation last year, going into January this year ? I wouldn't expect maximum performance from anyone during that situation or in the immediate aftermath whether the person involved was in a factory, down a pit, driving a Stobart lorry or playing rugby league before a small, critical crowd.
We have the same situation as last year, where,an injured player returns, apparently too soon, and again leaves the field with the same type of injury.Complete reshuffle and even more combinations involved.
As we managed to score 4 points last night and fail to score on the first home game, how does that equate with Phil Veivers not being good enough ? I have yet to see anyone suggesting Sean Long should go/be replaced.(Nor do I expect that to occur) I have seen many people praise the defensive structures of Brian Noble;someone PV has worked with in the past.
Is Shaun Wane a 'big name' coach ? Nathan Brown,a former NRL coach, had 4 years at Huddersfield and his time there ended somewhat ingloriously.
Let us just give the coaching pair support and time,as with the new arrivals, and see what happens instead of the usual knee-jerk reaction when disappointed.
The situation needs to improve on and off the field and I'm sure it will if people hold their nerve, and their expectation, in check.

SCR it's not us who need to hold their expectation in check it's our new owner. he's the one we should ' worry ' about , it's his money and I've a feeling he will get his way no matter what we say.

Once Koukash arrived with his financial safety net, it was inevitable that Veivers would come under more scrutiny. And this is happening.

| A root and branch review is exactly that.
Everybody needs to earn a contract.
I hope Vievers succeeds and he should be given every chance.
The lack of points scored puts extra pressure on the defence so we need to substantially improve in all areas.
Even last year when we were scoring tries for fun,we shipped loads of points so there have to be question marks against the coaching teams defensive capabilities.

| Just listened to the interview on the BBC after the game last night with the Doc and you get the feeling that by the end of the week heads will have rolled - when specifically asked about the coaches he was very cagey and I bet if PV heard that he's dreading a call in to see the Chairman.
One positive for me might be a slightly increased speed of player recruitment.

The only point of interest I can find with regard to Sheens is his longevity at the clubs - it appears to be at least 3/4 years - and his last job 10 years.
I think a minimum of 4 years would be reasonable to judge a coach;especially one given such a troubled start as Phil Veivers.

St Helens will probably be watching the developments with interest. No doubt they will really enjoy having their old boys back.Every NRL vacancy there is links Nathan Brown with it and it was Mr McManus who first invited Dr Koukash to a game of rugby league.

If Tim Sheens is available and willing to come (a very big if) there can't be any Salford supporter who would seriously rather keep Veivers, a man we had previously overlooked for the coaching job when it was given to Matt Parish.
Typical Salford mentality 'he's a decent sort, doing an average job in difficult circumstances so let's keep him.' This mentality prevailed under the previous mob and look where that got us.

It's pretty obvious the attendances that were announced last season were clearly inflated. 5,000 against Hull Kingston at home jumping straight out as an obvious one. It seems we have now accepted honesty is the best policy in that regard and have announced the proper attendances. Even with that aside, the 'stress and trauma' as you refer to it of the close season has clearly deterred a number of supporters from returning and season tickets going on sale after the season had started has clearly not helped. There is clearly no link between the slating of Tarry and the differences in attendances across the two seasons.

Simms 'allowed' the coach to have Holdsworth, Moon and Patten? What on earth are you talking about? You appear to be making some unbelievably convulated attempted to link the new management with us having to sign McGoldrick, Murphy and Williams, R as opposed to seeing the reality that is so blindingly obvious that I won't bother typing it.

You don't think the coach is ultimately responsible for the teams attack? Difficult to fathom the reference to Brian Noble and you also forgot to mention our 'best' defensive return in a match this season is 34 points against Hull Kingston so it would appear the defensive structures of Brian Noble haven't worked for us just yet.
I'm not blaming Veivers for this season and neither was the person who started this thread but your post made so little sense I felt compelled to reply.

| To progress as the Doc wants too only the best will do.
Think PV will look at the rest of the season as an open job application as in his heart of hearts he must know that he doesn't fit the high profile image the Doc is aiming for.

Perhaps the previous mob were realistic in their expectations for what the club could afford. What you have to understand is you can't attract the likes of Sheens in if you don't have the bread or bread to fund big name signings. It's a different ball game if you have a multi millionaire owner prepared to throw big money at it. Even with money it's proving difficult at the moment to attract better players so what hope did the previous regime have?

I never suggested the previous mob should have attempted to get a coach of the calibre of Sheens. The mentality I alluded to was a mentality that pervaded appointments and behaviour throughout the club and not just the coaching set up.

Little point in getting bogged down in the debates of the past but no I would say it was more influenced by the Chairman's outlook on things and I would say the club used that as an excuse for their consistent poor performance for years and years.
