Over the years, many posters on Virtual Terrace have argued that the number of clubs in SL need reducing ... it looks like its happening.

It looks like Wakefield are not bothering with a new build but improving Belle Vue by the looks of it on the SL show last night.

Bradford sold there ground to the rfl to clear old debt, but when doing that who ever at bradford decided to do this didnt take into consideration that when selling the bank would value the business less due to having less collateral. In them having less collateral the bank has decreased there overdraft, thus hitting the cashflow.

pretty poor business if thats happened imo.

Sorry if i`ve missed it but why are we lumped in with a club needing £500,000 or will cease to exist ?

I read the stories re the £50k owed which i understood to be short term and was being addressed. The oft quoted 8000 break even / needed to spend top cap figures but i thought we were relatively well run and within our means. After all we aren`t rushing out trying to sign Ellis etc

Bearing in mind the numbers they are getting, 11000 + for us on Sunday, how are they in such a hole ? Or have they done a Wigan and presumed they would be in the play offs/ Wembley in Wigans case and budgeted accordingly. If this is the reason then it is frankly financial suicide and an embarassing way to run a business.

If the league are reviewing the Cap and clubs performance against it wouldn`t/shouldn`t this have been spotted. Perhaps it was hence the "deal" earlier in the year re Odsal !

It seems the club has been run as badly as the RFL govern the game and issue 3 years licences to remain in Super League.They (the RFL ) got involved with the Racecourse Ground at Wrexham when there was more than sufficient warning about the Crusaders leadership and they gave Bradford a 3yrs licence within the last 12 months and a couple of months ago bought Odsal.
Completely shambolic and demonstrates to the rest of the sporting world how poorly the sport is controlled.

Once again it is the supporters who suffer and parents will be reluctant in wanting their children to participate in the sport.

Yet another bad day for rugby league.

Charging £60 a season ticket is appearing to be a mistake. They claimed they shifted 10,000 and therefore they were getting the same return as when they were charging normal prices but that probably wasn't true.

The lack of transparency in RL means we will probably never know what has caused this financial crisis at Bradford. Bradford normally go bust every 40 years or so I wouldn't worry too much and barring total meltdown they will still be in Super League next year.

I feel for the Bradford fans.

Their cheap season ticket policies may not have helped them. The attendances they claim seem to include the total number of season tickets sold before they add on those paying at the turnstiles.

I recognise that Salford and Castleford are not the wealthiest clubs in the game but I fail to see why their names have been included in the title of this thread.

If I were a Bradford fan I would want the people running the club to explain to me why there has been such a massive overspend in recent years. Perhaps we're not so badly run after all.

Perhaps Salfords name has been included due to the fact that they have issues with HMRC.
However the deeper picture should be under what criteria was the franchises checked last season when clubs should have submitted robust business plans and cash flow forecasts, surely Bradfords would have stood out like a sore thumb. in fairness they do state that their bank has changed it's lending criteria but surely this just meant that they were an accident waiting to happen.

The sooner they scarp this ill worked franchise system the better, after all what will bradford get a points deduction...so what they will still remain in Super league, look at barrow last season they ended up relegated on the back of their financial mess.!!

is there any Bradford players we would want, as I think we are one of the few teams with space under the cap.

maybe all those who in the last few weeks have called for the club to give free tickets away and to sign top players who we can't afford will now accept that all clubs should operate within a sustainable budget

Only said the other day that Bradford must lose a fair bit of cash as a result of Bradford fans offering away fans the use of their spare season tickets for a tenner. It seems a pretty popular practice so a substantial amount of revenue is surely being lost at every home game.

On the other hand, with over 11000 + fans in their the other day (B******t), it's perhaps surprising that they're so short of cash.

well if that includes the 10,000 who bought the £60 tickets that is only £600,000 which is a Million shy of the full salary cap perhaps that is why they are in dodo's shoes, plus the council don't bail them out each season now.

I think Barrow - well,owner Des Johnson did slightly more than breach the salary cap which resulted in a massive points deduction leading to relegation and him being banned for 8 years.

All the latest news does is question why some clubs need to go to the expense of a brand new stadium just to meet the Licensing Criteria for Super League.

It's probably due to the graded super league licence. We've been issued a grade C licence, as have widnes, wakefield, London and castleford. So widnes, wakefield and London should also be in the thread.

Bradford had a Grade B licence I think!

The Grade C seems to have been allocated to those clubs who did not have the stadium to the required criteria,

Interesting. If you read the Salford licence it quotes " solid commercial marketing and media plans". So to put it in Lehman's terms " we'll be marketing our new stadium and club in our local rag, and a local DJ MS will get us lots of coverage on a Local Radio station.

Thats the only solid marketing media campaign i've seen. Eat your heart out.
