After much reasoned debate a decision was made, it'll be popular in with some people maybe not so in others but there can be no questioning the outcome of the eventual winner.

| After much deliberation, it was a very close run decision to pick the "Legend No 7" possibly the hardest we have had to make.
The player to take the accolade is "Jackie Brennan" whose Salford career spanned 1959--71, making 317 appearance's for the Reds. Jackie played in the memorable match v the Australia touring side in 1959, when his last minute try brought the score to 20-22 but the kick was missed to win the game, he was also in the team that went to Wembley in 1969 . He went on to have a testimonial in 1970
Running Jackie very close was a legend in his own right, "Stevie Nash" who made 275 appearance's for the Reds who's Salford career was 1975--84/5. Steve was born & bred in Featherstone, played for his home town club & won the Lance Todd trophy in 1973 when Featherstone beat Bradford Northern at Wembley. Shortly after he was a world record signing at that time for salford @ £15,000. In many fans eyes, Steve would be the legend, but he is massivly "the fans favourite".
Both the players will be joining us on Friday for pre match hospitality & presented on the pitch.
Peter Banner & Steve Kerry also ran them 2 players close & both gave great service to the club & were greatly admired by the fans.

| Peter (the ferret) Banner, never have I seen a player who so obviously loved every minute he spent on the park, when he scored under the posts once at the club end, I swear to God his smile was wider than Barton Bridge!! I was really gutted when he left the club but Nashy was such a great player too that it made up for it, boy, we were so spoiled back in the late 60's/70's.

| Nashy caught me under the hairdryer in my mum's Hairdressers in the late 70's when he was also the Club Lifeline draw manager, I was having a perm at the time
a few other Salford players tried the curls a few weeks later

| Jackie Brennan a good player in generally poor teams, whereas Peter Banner was the perfect scrum half for our team of 'stars' that came in the 70s. He was a better bet for the style of rugby we played, than Steve Nash,in my opinion

| Without a doubt, Jackie Brennan is the finest Scrum Half I've seen in a Salford jersey, and I can go back almost sixty years.
An excellent choice.

| Paul Shaw?? Not here long but a great player. Craig Coleman, Andy Greg among the more recent players.
As for legend I think that the right choice has been made.

Shaw was mainly a Stand Off BD, but quality player but a stand off. For the record all of the following got a mention (I may have missed one or two);
Jackie Brennan
Peter Banner
Brian Keavney
Darren Bloor
Steve Kerry
Bob Prosser
Mark Lee
Gavin Clinch
Andy Gregory

I agree but like KOTS says he played stand-off for us with David Cairns playing scrum half. We signed Shaw from Manly if memory serves and he was never the same player after Paul Forber (While at Saints) cleaned him out at Knowsley Road one afternoon.

I'd have thought Billy Watkins of the great 30's team would have been considered. This could be the secret to Salford's future, sign a player called Watkins and we win things.

Am I right in thinking that, on the whole, this is a more modern, post-war legends list?

Yeah sadly the decision (well agreement) had to be made to only include players from around 1950 to (virtually) the present day. So thus no player from the great Red devils team will be included mainly as very few people alive actually saw them; however I think we're all very aware of their greatness and the will always be Legends and for me the greatest team ever to grace the Willows.

| Jackie Brennan is a good choice although I think he was originally signed as a stand off with Terry Dunn, also from Blackpool, joining as his scrum half.
I agree with Leu Kate that Steve Nash was less effective in that Salford team than Peter Banner had been.
We didn't need a seventh forward,we wanted someone to release the backs.
Anyway,Brennan is the correct choice from the eras that most of us can remember
