Just wondered if anyone chanthing fat granny beater at Ganson last night can come on here and tell me how they thought that may help? I from time to time give refs stick but surely its better to try get the ref on your side, dont know if anyone saw Ganson smirking at the shed as he walked off at the end and that is obvouisly down to the chanting i know if i was taking personal abuse i dertainly wouldnt help the people who were giving it me.We do seem to have a element of the support who just dont think about what they are doing and for me until we get away from the willows and perhaps attract some new support things wont change!! PS crap performance last night the guys from the previous two games just didnt turn up personally i thought it looked like our guys thought they just had to turn up to win and anybody who knows anything about sport will say once you got that attitude you cant turn it around during the game. We stand a better chance as underdogs at cas!!

Many shed regulars are becoming increasingly pathetic. That chant directed towards the Crusaders fans being the best example of their utter childishness... (The "it's nice to know you're here" chant.) Seriously lads, there was about 200 of them. Well 'ard!



Back to Ganson. No complaints from me. Arguably the best ref in Super League these days. Not really interested in what goes on in his private life.

Have to agree, despite my calling Ganson before the game, I think he got most things spot on - unlike the video ref - HOW the F**K could that last try have been grounded?

And the rules of RL - in what other sport do you get the "benefit of the doubt" to score - that rule stinks - if it's not 100% clear that a score has happened, then in my book it hasn't! But not in RL!!!!!!

Top post: Ganson "caned" Crusaders in the early stages of the game (quite rightly), and we failed to make it count.

I think Ganson(on present form) is one of the best refs in SL. Just because I think his reffing is good generally, it doesn't mean you have to like him personally.

ANYONE who has played RL , from schools, Club under-9s and right up to pro standard and beyond should know that Refs are to be "respected".
It shouldn't be negotiable. They make mistakes in their job: just like we all do.

Personally, I cannot imagine anything worse as a SL Ref to have to watch the tape of the game that you have just reffed the previous day. One thing I do like about Steve Ganson is that he will put his pride on one side and take instructions as to a decision. He might have not done this in his earler days, but all credit for his experience.

I'm with Ganson, that granny shouldn't have stolen his taxi. Fair play to him for dealing with her.

Ganson is the best SL Referee , that's not me saying that , that's what Salford Players have told me!

Truth is we should have been Home & Dry 30 mins in with the amount of ball we had ,

That was nothing to do with the ref , and the lottery that is the video ref Ben Thaler would have been inconsequential had we capitalised on our chances & possession.

Had we taken the 2 points for the penalty rather than trying to run in a try at the end of the 1st half we would have started the 2nd half off 2-0 or 0-0 rather than 0-6.
It was Bad decision making by the team not the ref that cost us .

The Thicko chants tend to start when we are behind and make us look like bad losers..

We are in a really bad state if the best ref in SL is Steve "I didn't quite see it, I'll have to go to the screen" Ganson. As for getting him onside you've got no chance. The bloke is arrogant in the extreme. My dad shouted to him at the club end after he'd made an error that "the officials are ruining rugby league!" He wasn't abusive, he wasn't foul mouthed merely stated a fact!!! Ganson's response? Turned round, winked at my dad, scratched his and laughed at him while making some comment to one of the other officials.

Remember he is supposed to be a professional. If a player responds to the crowd he would get hauled over the coals for it. These men are bomb proof! They are not accountable and they don't have to answer to fans or the press like coaches have to after a game. If they have a bad game it can cost a coach his job!!!

And he's a Saints fan! Enough said!!!!

Don't suppose your Dad has ever been a full time, professional, international RL referee has he?
Still, he's obviously best placed to conduct Ganson's performance evaluation.
Personally I think miserable old farts who constantly moan about referees are ruining the game far more than the officials.

Secondly, just because he hasn't referee'd at international level doesn't mean he doesn't know anything about the game and isn't entitled to his opinion! Just the same as being elevated to a position of responsiblity automatically means you can do the job! George W. Bush was president of America, doesn't mean he was any good at it!!!!

Finally, your post loses any possible credibilty when you describe Gansons reaction as perfectly acceptable. My dad was not threatening him or subjecting him to any personal abuse like others may have done. He pointed out that he thought he was persistently getting it wrong and the effect it was having on the game. If he can't deal with this sort of criticism then he shouldn't have the whistle in the first place.

What reaction? Are you sure it was meant at your father?

There's a national sghortage of refs: take a course and see what it involves.

Before you ask, I did many years ago.

And in one sentence you sum up the whole problem - referees aren't there to take flak off frustrated fans, they're there to officiate and without them we wouldn't have a sport to watch. There's no reason why a ref should have to "deal with this sort of criticism" to officiate in our game.

I'm no defender of refs and will happily slag them along with most fans when they've had a stinker (which Ganson didn't by the way). However, having vented my spleen, I don't then go running to my keyboard to complain about how naughty a ref is for scratching his ar[size=1.[/sizese?!

Back to the original point - your Dad is wrong, ref are not ruining our game and, whilst I never explicitly said that your Dad is a miserable old fart, he does sound like a bit of a tool to be honest.

On one point I agree with you. Refs are there to referee the game and to apply the rules!!

All too often refs fail apply the rules consistently (which btw was the context in which my dad made his comments to Mr Ganson!) and therefore ruin the game by there constantly being a disparity between what players can and can't do on the field of play. If one team can get quick play the balls and the other is prevented in doing so we end up with a slow disjointed game/ performance as we did on saturday aginst Crusaders. After the first 15mins Mr Ganson failed to deal with or ignored the spoiling from the visitors hence ruining the game!!

I also find it abhorent that you should disrespect somebody who you appear not to know by calling them a tool!!! I would thank you to keep those thoughts to yourself in future!
