Hate to agree with McRae, but Ratchford really is the type of player that can play anywhere in the backline. He's pacey enough to play on the wing, looks like he has the hands to put away his winger, when playing centre, and elusive enough to play fullback, very similar to Patten in that manner.

Not saying he's the finished article in any position, but if he could find an extra bit of muscle in defence, he could prove to be an excellent centre. Especially, when you consider how few quality english centres there are. Wherever he's going to end up playing, he and the club need to settle on his best position quickly. To strengthen his international case.

I know you shouldn't get too carried away after one performance but he certainly did enough on Friday to suggest he could be a great centre. His defence has improved massively over the last year or so and he seemed to strike a good partnership with Broughton, releasing him a few times

I seem to remember there being a player Salford brought in from Wales in the '70s who took a while to decide on his best position between full back, centre and stand off. Once he'd settled he became quite a decent player. Forget Malcolm Alker, he could be the new David Watkins

Maybe he actually enjoys being a red?! He seems like he's been given much more freedom since SM hasn't been in charge but then so does the whole team. He really seems to get on great with his team mates as well! Let's just hope we can get him tied to a long term deal asap before it's too late! Can't believe it's been left this long to be honest!! Any other club wouldve had him tied up at least 12months ago!

i know they would of! i heard last season though that mcrae didn't like him because of his off the cuff style
